Position Type: Administration/Director Date Posted: 3/9/2026 Location: Marion High School Date Available: 07/01/2026 Closing Date: 05/29/2026 District: Marion Community Schools MARION COMMUNITY SCHOOLS Marion, Indiana Job Description Position Title: MHS Director of Athletics FLSA Status: Exempt Responsible to: Marion High School Principal Supervises: Coaching staff of 20 varsity sports; custodians, ticket takers, and concession workers Evaluated by: Marion High School Principal Benefit Level: C Terms of Employment: 260 days Evaluation Period: Formative evaluations throughout the school year as per MCS Performance and Assessment procedures Annual summative evaluation prior to July 1 Purpose of the Position: Serve as the facilitator for the smooth operation and positive promotion of MHS Athletics. Classified as Confidential Employee: Functional responsibilities or knowledge in connection with the issues involved in dealings between the school corporation and its employees require strict adherence to confidentiality. Minimum Requirements: The following qualifications represent the minimum requirements necessary for an individual to perform this position effectively. Current Indiana administrative or teaching license preferred Bachelor Degree in appropriate area and background in education/teaching preferred Essential Functions of the Position: The following functions have been determined by Marion Community Schools to be essential to the successful performance of this position. Supervise and coordinate the Athletic Programs at Marion High School. Orient all Marion High School Athletic Staff to corporation, building and IHSAA procedures and guidelines. Schedule time and place for Athletic Activities. Generate game and official contracts for all Athletic Activities. Supervise preparation of indoor/outdoor facilities for all Marion High School Athletic Events. Supervise and control all home Marion High School Athletic Events. Schedule supervisory and security personnel as required for Marion High School Athletic Events. Schedule and secure necessary workers for home Marion High School Athletic Events, i.e. score keepers, timers, ticket takers/sellers. Officially represent the Marion High School Athletic Department at meetings and conferences dealing with athletic administration. Handle scheduling details for IHSAA State Tournaments held at Marion High School. Prepare Athletic Budgets. Supervise expenditure of Marion High School Athletic Department funds. Purchase athletic equipment and supplies for MarionHigh School athletic programs. Handle all revenue, including ticket sales, and report daily to the Marion High School activities bookkeeper. Supervise Marion High School Athletic Department fundraising guidelines. Monitor athletic eligibility and athletic physical forms as required by the IHSAA. Schedule and assist in organization of athletic awards banquets and ceremonies. Arrange for transportation for all Marion High School Athletic teams, including, game, meets, practices, etc. Supervise and evaluate all Varsity Head Coaches at Marion High School. Supervise and assist all Varsity Head Coaches with the evaluations of Assistant Coaches. Recommend and submit for approval all Marion High School Athletic Department hires. Supervise and coordinate media and public relations. Serve on 24/7 call availability for emergency situations. Secondary Functions of the Position: The following functions, while important and necessary to the position, have been determined by Marion Community Schools to be marginal to the successful performance of this position. Periodically visit all athletic facilities (both on and off campus) to insure availability and proper playing conditions. Perform other duties and responsibilities as directed by Superintendent. Knowledge of: Policies, procedures and functions of Marion Community Schools Board of Trustees IHSAA rules and regulations Applicable software and applications Ability to: Plan, organize, and schedule priorities. Use independent judgment and initiative in making sound decisions and in developing solutions to problems. Discreetly handle confidential and politically sensitive matters. Make independent decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures. Tactfully and courteously respond to requests and inquiries/complaints from the general public and staff. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Equipment Used: General Office Equipment Where work is performed: Marion High School and other facilities in the Marion Community Schools Other athletic facilities and organizations throughout the State of Indiana. Physical Demands: Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time. Must be able to stoop, kneel or crouch. Must be able to hear and speak clearly.
