Job Description:
Assistant Copy Editor for Trade PublicationsProfessional Sports Publications is seeking a motivated and experienced assistant copy editor to join a growing editorial team. The department independently produces industry-focused trade publications covering topics such as shipping ports, transportation infrastructure and government agencies. The ideal candidate is a team player who is an expert in AP style, capable of fact checking technical copy and comfortable collaborating with a small team.This will be a full-time, in-person copy editing position based out of our Midtown Manhattan office.Copy editors will:Work directly with writers to copy edit multiple industry-specific editorial projects each month. This will include fact checking research, improving story flow and polishing final copy.Edit short- and long-form (500-1,000 words) magazine-style articles on industry-specific topics for accuracy, grammar and AP style.Work with the senior copy editor to improve content quality and editorial procedures.Help oversee and update our in-house style guide as needed. Skills desired: 1-2 years of copy editing experience working in news, marketing or communications preferred (can include internships, student publications and college writing centers).A strong background in AP style and fact checking is required.Candidates should have strong time management skills and be flexible to multitask in response to changing deadlines and concurrent projects.Strong communication and time management skills are a must.Experience copy editing B2B or technical writing is a plus.The salary range is $40-45K annually + benefits.About the Independent Editorial TeamThe independent team is the newest arm of PSP, publishing over 100 annual industry-specific magazines covering non-sports sectors such as shipping ports, transportation infrastructure and government agencies.
