Duties: Secret Service Police Officers are assigned various protection roles, including: Protecting prominent locations such as The White House Complex, The Vice President's Residence, The Main Treasury Building and Annex, as well as foreign diplomatic missions and embassies within the D.C. area. Traveling to support the missions of the President, Vice President, and foreign heads of state/government. Enforcing responsibilities as mandated under Title 18, United States Code, Section 3056A. Requirements: Must be a U.S. citizen. Hold a current valid U.S. driver's license. Age Requirement: Must be at least 21 years old by the time of application and under 40 at referral. Age exceptions apply for current or prior federal law enforcement with special retirement provisions. Capable of carrying and using a firearm, with mandatory maintenance of firearm proficiency. Uncorrected visual acuity must be no worse than 20/100 binocular; corrected visual acuity should be 20/20 or better in each eye. Hearing must not exceed 25 decibels loss in either ear at the 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz ranges; applicants must hear a whispered voice at 15 feet in each ear without assistance. Pass a drug test prior to appointment and submit to random drug testing while in the position. Complete 12 weeks of intensive training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA or Artesia, NM and an additional 17 weeks of specialized training at the James J. Rowley Training Center in Laurel, MD. If a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, must certify registration with the Selective Service System or be exempt.
