Senior Analytical ChemistDepartment: Research & Development Reports to: Manager, Research & DevelopmentFLSA Status: ExemptSalary Grade: 8Prepared Date: 04/02/2026SummaryThe Senior Analytical Chemist plays a key role in the research and development of both existing products and new technologies in wastewater treatment, water reclamation, and water treatment. This position is responsible for managing the Aqua-Aerobic laboratory in alignment with company objectives, working cross-functionally with other departments to support innovation and performance goals. The role oversees laboratory operations and ensures effective utilization of lab resources to meet organizational needs. Additionally, the Senior Analytical Chemist produces high-quality documentation for both internal and external use and communicates testing results and conclusions clearly through written reports and presentations to stakeholders and customers.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESPerform qualitative and quantitative analysis of water samples using LC-MS (Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry), Spectrophotometry and wet chemistry using Standard Methods for water and wastewater. Investigate new methods and develop operational SOP's, maintenance plans and document management policies Evaluate potential new analyzers and equipment for use in R&D and commercial installations.Conduct targeted and non-targeted analysis for PFAS compounds and other environmental contaminants Develop, optimize, and validate analytical methods for complex wastewater matrices Prepare samples using appropriate extraction and cleanup techniques (e.g., SPE, liquid-liquid extraction) Interpret and analyze complex datasets; prepare clear and accurate reports of findings and present to stake holders.Collaborate with engineering and R&D teams to support product development and performance testing Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory standards (e.g., EPA methods) and internal quality protocols Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation Document experimental procedures, results, and method development activities Support continuous improvement initiatives within the lab Develop and implement lab procedures for all users.Develop and implement laboratory inventory control system for equipment and consumables.Work within department and project budgetsMaintain records for expenditures, labor hours and third-party reimbursements.knowledge, skills and abilitiesMust be team oriented, self-motivated, and possess a strong process related background with proficient technical writing and effective communication skills. Proficient use of Microsoft Office and ability to gain basic knowledge and effective use of Epicor. Must be able to travel in strategic situations (2 to 4 times/year). Work requires math, chemistry, biological process knowledge, customer service abilities, and general mechanical, electrical control and practical water/wastewater application process knowledge.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESIndirectly - Train and supervise and direct pilot test technicians, engineers and operatorsWORK ENVIRONMENTThe role involves typical office and laboratory working conditions with moderate background noise from computers, printers, telephones, and other standard equipment. It is a hands-on, safety-driven environment with routine exposure to municipal and industrial wastewater, as well as the chemicals used in treatment processes. Work settings include the on-site laboratory, shop areas, the Research & Technology Center, the AquaNereda Demonstration Plant, and occasional visits to customer water and wastewater facilities. Moderate lifting required as necessary to fill and empty sample containers (~5 gallons or about 40 pounds). Occasional visits to customer sites (Moderate travel to Aqua's off-site research facilities (~11 miles from the factory)Minimum qualificationsQualificationsBachelor's[PAP1] degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred, along with a minimum of five (5) years of direct experience in an analytical laboratory (environmental or wastewater preferred).Hands-on experience with LC-MS and/or GC-MS instrumentation Experience analyzing PFAS or similar trace-level contaminants strongly preferred Familiarity with EPA or other environmental testing methods is a plus Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills Excellent attention to detail and documentation practices Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced R&D environment Familiarity with standard methods for water and wastewater analysis.
