SUMMARY:As a Crew Chief I, you will be an integral part of Bryant Associates Land Survey Department in our Louisville, KY office, where we provide our clients with a full range of surveying and mapping services.JOB DESCRIPTION:The Crew Chief I, will execute and supervise other members on the survey crew in gathering field survey data and providing construction layout using conventional and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) methods. The position will entail review of real estate documents, including plans and records as well as construction plans in order to perform boundary, topographic, right-of-way, acquisition and construction stakeout surveys for utility, transportation and building projects.RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other Duties May Be Assigned)Complete site control, boundary reconnaissance, construction staking and topographic surveysPerform 3D scanning, and other surveying services in support of engineering workReview of maps, field notes, and exhibits; performing construction staking calculations for improvements and utilitiesSupport surveying and mapping activities for boundary surveys, topographic mapping and construction staking projectsSupervise crew members to complete daily survey assignments correctly and proficientlyWill have supervisory responsibilities for crew members and support staff including hiring, promoting, performance reviews, and trainingCoordinate requirements of Resident Engineer and Construction SupervisorWork in close collaboration with Project SurveyorsEffectively deal with difficult situations and confrontation both internally and externallyAssist in project deliverables as appropriateWork independently as a one-person crew as requiredOperate, daily, various surveying instrumentsDaily uploading and downloading of data collectorsManage survey equipment and suppliesWork in a safe manner and obey all safety regulationsContinually advance knowledge with upgrades in technologyComplete internal and external training as requiredREQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:Prior experience working on both civil/site and structural engineering and surveying projectsDemonstrated ability to instruct/ coach survey crew members on how to perform the aspects of their job they may not yet be skilled inAbility to read and interpret engineering plans and construction documentsMust be proficient with the use of survey equipment. (GPS, Robotics, Total Stations, Levels, Scanners, and Data Collectors)Able to work independently with minimal oversightDesire to work in a team environmentMust have strong supervisory skillsMust have good communication skillsObserves company and client safety requirementsMust have a valid driver's license and ability to pass a driving record checkAbility to pass a drug testEDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEMinimum of 5 years of survey experience requiredMust have a High School Diploma or equivalentSupplemental courses in surveying a plusCOMPUTER SKILLSRequired knowledge of Microsoft office software (Word, Excel etc.)Knowledge in use of AutoCAD a plusSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBLITIESWill supervise Instrument Operator(s)TRAVEL:Daily travel to and from various local/regional job sites will be required, occasional overnight travel, or night shift work may be required.
