Essential Functions:Working within a collaborative, team environment, the School Psychologist will: Utilize their knowledge of data-based decision making and accountability, diversity in development and learning, as well as research and program evaluation to assist staff with effective decision-making regarding student needs Utilizes appropriate assessment and data collection methods Contribute to school-wide assessment and data-based practices for academic, social- emotional, and behavioral domains. Contribute to progress monitoring and data-based decisions regarding intervention practices for academic, social-emotional, and behavioral domains. Conduct special education evaluations to inform eligibility, service, and programming decisions. Complete evaluations in a timely manner. Utilize technology as part of data-based decision-making practices. Utilize their knowledge of intervention and instructional support, mental health, prevention, and response to assist with the development and delivery of services to students to improve learning and student outcomes. Contribute to school-wide curricular and instructional practices for academic, social- emotional, and behavioral domains. Contribute to intervention practices for academic, social- emotional, and behavioral domains. Contribute to crisis response and intervention practices. Utilize information about student background and characteristics to inform instruction, intervention, and service delivery decisions. Utilize their knowledge of school-wide practices to promote learning as well as consultation and collaboration to assist staff in creating and maintaining effective learning environments. Engage in consultation and collaboration with school staff, parents and families, community agencies, and service providers. Develop and sustain professional involvement and leadership to ensure the continued learning and effective school psychological services to schools, families, and students. Seek professional growth and learning opportunities to advance own knowledge and skill Advocate for student success Exhibit the minimum competencies expected in any employment situation. School psychologists also adhere to ethical standards, grow professionally, and participate as active stakeholders across school environments. Serve as an advisor, across 2 years time, with 15-18 students (grades 7th-12th only). Work collaboratively with teachers, other service providers, parents, and school leaders to support the needs of the student.Relationships and Tone Build personal relationships with all students that demonstrate respect and compassion. Involve students in the processes of the reading group including, but not limited to, creating rules, accepting responsibilities, understanding consequences of misbehavior, communicating effectively about problems and conflicts, & developing the skills to solve problems independently.Communications Communicate effectively, both orally & in writing, with students, parents, & other professionals routinely. Respond to parent and colleague communications in a respectful and timely manner. Participate professionally in scheduled meetings (grade level; faculty; Whole Child Assessments; Professional Development, etc.).Professionalism and Teamwork Model professional behaviors and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and the broader community. Maintain reliable, consistent attendance and punctuality.Non-Essential Functions: Perform other duties as assigned. Assist in other school programs when necessary. Knowledge of: Constructivist learning theory and its translation and application in the expertise of assignment (special education for Elementary, Middle and High School); Special education eligibilities and disabilities; Special education techniques and standards; Behavioral management strategies and approaches to creating and maintaining a school environment of safety, respect, and learning; Cultural, socio-economic, and learning differences in the student population; Conflict resolution strategies to support healthy social development in children; Professional skills for collaboration and teamwork with other education professionals; Written and oral communications skills.Ability to: Meet the needs of a diverse student population; Support student social and emotional development; Work collaboratively and professionally with the Larchmont Schools team; Communicate effectively with all stakeholders to support student success. Use modern technology for teaching, communicating and reporting.Physical Requirements: Continual speaking; standing for long periods of time; frequent sitting, reaching, walking, bending, grasping and pinching; occasional lifting and carrying, squatting, twisting or kneeling. Environment: Uneven surfaces, noise, quick work pace. Requires that the incumbent work effectively under stressful situations and respond to the unpredictable behaviors of students. Frequent use of computer screen. Occasionally involves working outdoors and exposure to inclement weather. Infrequently involves exposure to traffic congestion.
