Central / West Tunnel Lead

This person will lead some of the largest and most significant infrastructure projects in the Central and West Regions, focusing on hydraulic tunnel engineering.This is a professional that is well versed in all aspects of services for trenchless projects. We have a strong backlog of conveyance work and opportunities for continued growth. You will support design teams, oversee all aspects of trenchless discipline and multi-benefit projects with a high degree of technical complexity. The position will help build and maintain client relations, participate in project development and contract document preparation, and work with HDR staff across disciplines. ResponsibilitiesDirect involvement and oversight on select projects to manage tunnel related servicesAdvising on and review of alternatives analyses and feasibility studies related to tunnelsRisk management and risk awareness of the WBG tunneling portfolioSubconsultant vetting and working with teams for subconsultant risk management including required Quality Assurance activities and scope provisionsAssessment and enhancement of HDR's capabilities regarding tunnel construction and trenchless technologies including SEM and NATMCollaboration with HDR's WBG Tunnel Practice Lead and Geotechnical Cross SectorVerify qualifications and training of field staff assigned to construction phase services related to tunnelsSecondary responsibilitiesCost engineering supportSkills and bench-depth management for tunnel instrumentation, mechanical, civil, and design support for projectsAssessing terrestrial and marine construction capabilitiesNumerical modeling to support tunnel projects including ground/structure interactionTechnologies for coordination/production of design and contract documentsSite characterization and geotechnical evaluationsConstruction engineering supportInspections and condition assessmentsResiliency, operations, and emergency response issues QualificationsRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Engineering10 years related experienceMinimum 5 years project management experienceProfessional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., PE or P.Eng)MS Office and MS Project experienceDemonstrated leadership, business development and strategic planning skillsCommitment to HDR's employee-owned culturePreferred QualificationsMaster's degreeAbility to communicate and coordinate work within an integrated multidisciplinary teamU.S. focused tunneling design and constructionExperience leading design and construction of tunnels and underground facilitiesGeotechnical expertise and familiarity with ground conditionsExperience with SEM, NATM, SCL, EPBM, cut-and-coverPublications, professional society involvementPh.D. in engineering or related fieldExperience managing staff, clients and contracts; hiring for an engineering firmMarketing and business development skills and industry contactsExperience with numerical analysis tools (e.g., FLAC, UDEC, PLAXIS, MIDAS, MODFLOW)Ground-structure interaction modeling (FEM or similar)Experience in large-scale underground projects and urban tunnelingPrior construction/contractor experienceStrong interpersonal and client-facing skills What We BelieveHDR is our company. The expected compensation range for this position is $116,802 - $231,750 depending on skills, experience, education and location.
