Contract Instructional Designer (Hybrid - Bay Area / Livermore, CA)We are seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Instructional Designer to support the development of technical training programs within the Power Generation utility industry. This is a contract role with a hybrid structure"”primarily remote with occasional travel within the service territory.Important: Only candidates located in the Bay Area or near Livermore, CA will be considered.Work SetupHybrid: 90% remote / 10% travelTravel: Quarterly visits within service territory (including Sierra region); occasional overnight staysSchedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (PST)Equipment: Laptop provided (additional equipment via supplier)Note: No reimbursement for cell phone or internet usageCommunication via Microsoft Teams or phoneKey ResponsibilitiesDesign and develop instructor-led and on-the-job training for apprenticeship programsCreate high-quality learning materials including:Student & facilitator guidesHands-on activities and simulationsScenarios, videos, and assessmentsConduct task analysis for job functions, processes, and systemsDefine learning objectives and course structures aligned with stakeholder needsCollaborate closely with Senior Instructional Designers to follow standards and templatesPartner with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for content validation and feedbackParticipate in key project milestones (task analysis, alpha/beta reviews, pilot sessions, train-the-trainer)Required Qualifications3+ years of experience developing technical instructor-led training (utilities or related industries preferred)Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, or related fieldStrong skills in:Instructional design methodologiesTechnical writingMicrosoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and TeamsExcellent communication and collaboration skillsHighly organized, detail-oriented, and able to meet deadlines independentlyTeam-oriented, adaptable, and receptive to feedbackPreferred QualificationsExperience in:Hydroelectric operationsConstruction or heavy equipment trainingMaster's degree in Instructional Design, Education, or related fieldFamiliarity with tools such as:Articulate 360QuestionmarkAuthor-ItGraphic design skillsTeaching or training delivery experiencePrior experience with utility training academiesAdditional InformationContract role with potential for extension (not guaranteed)Travel expenses are reimbursed per policy
