Job Description:
Responsible for managing and directing an assigned group of company drivers and overseeing contractor relations. This must be done within the established policies and procedures of the company. The key responsibility of a driver manager is to foster proactive communication to help facilitate the needs of the driver and company objectives. This includes, but is not limited to, safety, training, performance metrics, maintenance, and pay. The Driver Manager must be accessible to an assigned group of drivers by phone, e-mail, text, or Mobile Communications system. Driver and contractor management is the primary emphasis, but the position will also assist with managing day-to-day activities within the service center. Communicate with internal and external customers as needed.Job Duties and Responsibilities: Main responsibility is to be the direct line communication and management of driversInterview drivers to ensure job duties and expectations align from both driver and companyFrequent communication to make sure we are meeting drivers' expectationsApprove and review driver pay for accuracyEnsure driver pay thresholds are metReview and discuss safety analytics with driverAssure Transflo scanning is currentEnsure all driver training certificates and expirations are currentManage driver OJT and onboarding checklist reviewsComplete driver performance reviewsResponsible for meeting or exceeding driver turnover ratioMeet or exceed budgeted driver countMonitor accuracy of driver profiles and schedulesSpeak-ups and People Element survey reportingWork with HR (Human Resources) & safety regional managers on corrective actions and compliance occurrencesOther duties as assignedEducation/Experience/Licenses/Certifications: Bachelor's Degree preferredHigh school diploma or equivalent required2 years' experience in the direct management of personnel preferredBulk transportation preferredSkills Required: Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skillsManagement experience preferredStrong time management and organizational skillsAbility to exercise independent judgement.Ability to direct and manage employees and contractorsAbility to follow established policies and procedures of the companyKnowledge of Federal DOT, OSHA, and EPA regulationsMust be able to work with interruptions and deadlinesMust be able to effectively interact with internal and external customersPhysical Demands/Working Conditions: Majority of time will be spent at the service center- in the office and on the yardFlexibility in scheduled hours and days worked is requiredOccasional weekend work and non-business hours availability is requiredOccasional travel to other service centers as neededCommitment to Responsible CareĀ®: Highway Transport's Quality Driven Delivery Management System policy has been developed by the company's senior management and serves as a visible commitment to ensuring the health and safety of our employees and contractors, protecting the environment and minimizing the impact of our operations on the roadways which we travel and the areas where we manage terminal facilities.
