DescriptionGPI is seeking an experienced Resident Engineer (RE) to oversee construction inspection and contract administration for a municipal sanitary sewer replacement project that will transition into a Complete Streets roadway reconstruction. For more information, visit: Responsibilities:Sanitary Sewer Replacement Phase:Provide full-time on-site resident engineering and inspection services during sanitary sewer replacement constructionOversee contractor activities, including work zone traffic control, excavation, pipe installation, manholes, service connections, bypass pumping, and testingVerify compliance with approved plans, specifications, permits, and local/State requirementsCoordinate inspections, testing, and documentation related to sewer installation and restorationReview and process RFIs, submittals, change orders, and contractor payment applicationsMaintain daily logs, inspection reports, quantities, and project recordsCoordinate with municipal staff, utility companies, and the public to minimize impacts during constructionComplete Streets Phase:Support the transition from utility construction to roadway and streetscape improvementsOversee construction activities associated with Complete Streets elements, including:Roadway reconstruction and pavingSidewalks, curb ramps, and ADA-compliant pedestrian facilitiesBicycle accommodations and traffic calming featuresDrainage improvements, pavement markings, signage, and streetscape elementsEnsure construction aligns with Complete Streets principles, supporting safe access for pedestrians, bicyclists, transit users, and motoristsCoordinate with designers, inspectors, and municipal stakeholders during phased constructionReview and process RFIs, submittals, change orders, and contractor payment applications for this locally administered federally funded project.Maintain project records in accordance with NYSDOT Manual of Uniform Record KeepingMonitor traffic control, staging, and public safety throughout the projectQualifications:Associates degree in Civil Engineering or related field (Bachelor's degree preferred)NICET III Certification (NICET IV, NY State PE preferred)Minimum 7+ years of construction inspection or resident engineering experienceDemonstrated experience with sanitary sewer replacement projectsExperience with municipal roadway reconstruction or Complete Streets projects strongly preferredDemonstrated experience with NYSDOT, municipal, and local agency construction standardsStrong knowledge of construction means and methods, safety practices, and quality controlAbility to manage documentation, field coordination, and multiple stakeholdersUrban or village-center infrastructure projectsUtility coordination and sequencing in active roadwaysADA compliance and pedestrian facility constructionCommunity-facing projects requiring public coordinationRequirementsMaintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final considerationPossess a personal vehicle for use on or around a job siteRead, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English languageBasic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team membersAble to stand for approximately 3 hours minimum a day up to 8 hoursAble to traverse a construction job site consisting of uneven ground varying in height and consistency of material, with a variation of elevation 19" or less (mud, gravel, rutted ground, etc.)Able to wear GPI required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working Able to move equipment or inspection specimens weighing up to 50 pounds
