JOB TITLE: Concrete Finisher JOB CLASS NUMBER: TRD222 PAY GRADE: G04 SALARY: $19.00 per hour FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt BUSINESS UNIT NAME: Drainage Utility REPORTS TO: Drainage Utility Supervisor SUPERVISORY WORK: None SUMMARY Under the general supervision of the Foreperson II, this position supervises activities of Utility Workers in the maintenance, repair, and construction of City curbs, gutters, valleys/channels and other City properties. Generally in charge of forming, grading, and finishing concrete with all associated responsibilities and skills. May be required on occasion to perform semi-skilled or manual unskilled work. This position will be required to work shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime as necessary by the department, and during inclement weather. This position is considered weather essential personnel. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Operates a small work unit in the concrete repair, construction, and maintenance of drainage infrastructure. Set forms and reinforcements as needed, pours concrete and finishes the concrete to grade. Repairs concrete structures including curbs, gutters, street valleys, alley aprons, etc. Oversees all equipment and tool inventory under their direction. Performs minor maintenance and repairs to equipment, observing a preventative maintenance schedule. Calculates and orders the amount of materials needed for each job. Sets and figures simple grade when needed. Consults with foreman on work schedules and plans. Assigns various tasks to crew members. Keep vehicles and equipment clean and in good working order. Takes over as Foreman as needed. Other Responsibilities: • Maintains safe working environment through the application of standard barricading and traffic safety procedures. • Proper completion of daily job reports, and other reports as needed. • Maintains an inventory of all tools. • Operates other equipment or trucks as needed during emergencies, trains on unfamiliar equipment or operates within comparable pay range when necessary. • Orders supplies from warehouse or outside suppliers as necessary. • Maintains safe working environment through compliance with occupational safety rules and practices. • Performs manual work when needed to assist in the performance of various tasks. • Capture and record progression of projects utilizing electronic devices. • Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Takes over as Foreman as needed. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Takes over as Foreman as needed. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Must possess good communication skills, both oral and written. Must have good working knowledge of light and medium-sized trucks and equipment, i.e., utility trucks and 5-10 cu.yd. dump truck. Must be knowledgeable and skilled in the use of all hand tools common to the concrete trade, both power and manual. Must have working knowledge of traffic control devices and their applications. Skill in running and maintaining power saws, drills and other machinery and equipment used in setting and reinforcing forms. Ability to work safely around power equipment and heavy equipment. Possession of good communication skills, good public relations representative of the City. Regular and punctual attendance is a requirement of this position. WORK ENVIRONMENT Employee must have good working knowledge and good mechanical aptitude of light and medium-large equipment and trucks. Should be familiar with the use of all hand tools, both power and manual, and be capable of applying traffic safety devices and controls to all traffic situations. Frequent use of two-way radio is mandatory. The position requires good physical condition, ability to drive in all types of city traffic. Work long, enduring hours during inclement weather or emergencies. This position requires light to moderate occasional lifting (30-100 lbs.).
