Position Summary: The Nursing Assistant plays a key supportive role in delivering safe, compassionate, and efficient care to patients undergoing ophthalmic surgical procedures in a high-volume ambulatory surgery center (ASC). Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), the Nursing Assistant assists with patient preparation, mobility, hygiene, and monitoring, contributing to a positive patient experience and smooth clinical workflow. This role involves working collaboratively with clinical and administrative staff to ensure patient safety, infection control compliance, and high standards of care in preoperative, intraoperative, and post-anesthesia recovery phases. Job Duties & Essential Functions: Preoperative Assist patients with changing, toileting, and comfort measures prior to surgery. Transport patients safely to and from pre-op areas. Record vital signs and report abnormal findings to the RN or provider. Help prepare surgical areas and ensure readiness for patient intake. Intraoperative (Support Role) Maintain cleanliness and organization in clinical areas. Assist with the turnover of operating and procedure rooms Replenish surgical supplies and restock patient care items. Transport specimens, equipment, or paperwork as needed. Post-Anesthesia Recovery Assist with patient positioning and mobility post-surgery. Support patients during recovery, offering reassurance and basic care under RN supervision. Monitor and report changes in patient condition promptly. Help patients dress and prepare for discharge safely. General Responsibilities Document patient care activities accurately and in a timely manner. Practice proper hand hygiene and follow infection prevention protocols at all times. Clean and prepare patient areas between cases. Provide supportive care with empathy, respect, and attention to patient privacy. Assist in orienting new Nursing Assistants to department workflows and expectations. Assist with escorting and transporting patients safely throughout the facility, ensuring comfort and adherence to all safety protocols. Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations by safeguarding patient privacy and ensuring the confidentiality of all health information. Required Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent Minimum of 6 months of experience in a healthcare or patient care setting Knowledge of basic patient care procedures and safety standards. Demonstrated ability to assist with personal hygiene and mobility. Demonstrated ability to accurately obtain and record vital signs. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients and clinical staff.
