Job Description:
This position is responsible for: Supervising, planning, scheduling, and monitoring the planning and delivery of program activities and events. Assists in the management of the overall camp operation at the direction of the Camp Director. Supervises all programs conducted at the camp through subordinate specialists for various programs such as aquatic/lakefront activities, nature, arts & crafts, horseback riding, bicycling, archery, outdoor skills/camping, challenge course, and audio/visual. Designs and delivers program activities that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the camper's age and abilities. Provides faith-based guidance and role modeling to campers. Participates alongside campers during camp worship meetings and times of prayer. Leads devotional activities and faith-based songs with campers and supports the seeker's ministry. Key Responsibilities: Demonstrates Christ-like care and will be responsible for praying with campers, encouraging them spiritually, and guiding them in their Christian walk. While on duty, staff members conducting these ministerial responsibilities must ensure that their words, actions, and behavior align with the doctrines and theology of The Salvation Army. Plans, develops, coordinates, implements, and evaluates camp programs based on the changing needs of campers; develops programs or assists leaders in developing programs to target the enrolled campers. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity. Some physical requirements of the Camp Program Director position include endurance, including climbing, standing, bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity are required for manipulating activities. Requires a normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility available. Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying environmental conditions.
