The Fleet Maintenance Division of Finance: The City of Jacksonville Fleet Maintenance Division islocated at the Public Services Complex in downtown Jacksonville. This division is responsible for purchasing and maintaining approximately 650 pieces of City owned equipment ranging from lawn mowers to dump trucks. General Description: The City of Jacksonville is looking for a Fleet Specialist to perform intermediate skilled mechanical work in the repair of a variety of gasoline and diesel-powered small engine equipment. Work is performed under regular supervision of the Shop Supervisor and/or the Lead Mechanic. This position comes with many opportunities for career development as you grow within the profession. The salary posted is the full salary range for this position. The starting salary is expected to be in the range of$36,265.25 -$47,144.82depending on qualifications. Essential Functions/Typical Tasks Providing preventive maintenance, repair and maintenance of small engine equipment and support for Fleet Mechanics. (These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.) * Performs Preventative Maintenance (PM) Service on mowers, attachments and trailers. * Orders parts on City credit card, maintains invoices, ensures correctly charged out. * Responsible for maintaining all Work Orders (WO) assigned, from opening to closing. * Moves from work order to work order as they are completed or awaiting parts with limited supervision. * Complete NC State Safety inspection on required equipment. * Drives to pick up parts. * Drops off and picks up vehicles from local vendors to have repairs done. * Installs lettering and numbers on all new equipment. * Helps mechanics with repairs when needed. * Moves items and equipment around the shop area using forklift. * Cleans all vehicles/equipment turned into Fleet as surplus. * Keeps shop area clean. * Performs related tasks as required. Required Education and Experience Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school with additional automotive shop classes AND 6 months experience in mechanical repair. Possess a driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Thorough knowledge of the methods, tools and equipment used in the repair of small engine equipment; thorough knowledge and skill in the use and operation of shop tools and machinery; ability to diagnose the more common defects in small engine equipment; ability to interpret work from sketches, diagrams and installation and repair charts; ability to understand and follow instructions in both oral and written form; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
