Shipfitter Journeyperson Mayport - Jacksonville, FL Job Description: We are seeking a skilled Shipfitter Journeyperson to perform steel and aluminum structural repairs and modernization on various marine vessels, including US Naval Vessels, Military Sealift Command vessels, and commercial ships and barges. The candidate should demonstrate a strong mechanical aptitude, knowledge of ship terminology, and the ability to follow detailed job specifications and drawings with minimal supervision. Qualifications and Experience: Ability to comprehend instructions, drawings, and general correspondence. Comprehensive understanding of ship repair terminology and ship compartment location nomenclature. Capable of wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE) as prescribed under OSHA standards. Experience in writing Condition Found Reports (CFR) to describe ship conditions and recommend corrective actions. Strong communication skills for sharing job-related information with supervisors and team members. Proficient in reading and interpreting structural drawings, sketches, specifications, and diagrams. Experience with fabricating templates, squaring plates, and installing structures per drawings. Proficient in using oxy-acetylene torches for cutting and washing. Welding experience in SMAW (S-11A), FCAW (S-1), and GMAW (S-25). Familiarity with hand and power tools including mauls, grinders, and drills. Understand structural shop fabrication equipment operation, including shears, punches, and brakes. Working knowledge of aluminum 5XXX process. Competency in US customary and metric measurement systems. Minimum of four (4) years of related experience. Duties and Responsibilities: Maintain compliance with OSHA standards and best safety practices. Arrive on time to work and adhere to shift schedules. Maintain a clean and safe work area at all times. Follow relevant work processes and operate equipment proficiently. Complete daily assignments and provide shift turnover updates. Utilize NAVSEA, ABS, Coast Guard standards, and manufacturer's tech manuals as required. Provide quality work and Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) as specified by supervisors. Uphold the Company's Non-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy. Execute written, oral, or diagram form instructions and address unexpected tasks professionally. Work Tasks Include: Preparing work areas for hot work and coordinating with fire watch. Measuring, laying out, and marking structures for removal using specified guidelines. Cutting and constructing templates and prefabricating structures per required standards. Installing aluminum components according to 5XXX standards. Directing and monitoring activities of assigned helpers or improvers. Ensuring work areas are free from remnants and prepared for subsequent tasks. Implementing Lock-out Tag-out procedures during work.
