Focus will be placed on developing, and managing tools and analysis to optimize cars and race strategies to achieve company and project objectives and support our customers' success. Collaboration with vehicle dynamis, aerodynamics, powertrain, chassis development, and other groups within HRC.This position will work from HRC's Indianapolis Technical Center, working closely with HRC's Vehicle Performance Group and DIL team. The position will be part of the traveling race team, attending racing and test events trackside, with frequent visits to race team shops.Key AccountabilitiesTechnical Functional Specialist: Provide trackside and race engineering with performance engineering support. Focus on tire engineering, performance, run plans, and analysis. Responsible for tire allocation usage and pressure settings and management. Conduct analysis and reporting as needed. Work closely with race engineers, technical experts, and supplier/vendor engineers. Support race and performance optimization through vehicle configuration, setup, and race and session strategy management. Analyse data in real-time and offloaded data. Leverage new and emerging technologies to support continuous growth and development. 50%Simulation Development and Support: Ongoing hardware/software development to improve model fidelity and system capabilities. Maintain communication and collaboration within HRC, other Honda companies, and external partners. This will include gathering characterization data and modelling the relevant vehicle systems. In addition, the model must be validated to circuit data. Generate summary report of the model validation. 20%Administration & Documentation: Communicate to relevant parties on project and testing status. Liaison with HRC Engineers and Teams. Prepare reports as needed. Present results in a format that is clear and complete. Create and post technical reports in a timely manner. Provide summary reports of each session. Control documents (including electronic documents) per records retention policy. Attend meetings as required. 20%Problem Analysis and Resolutions: Create and post problem documentation by the end of the day. Resolve all problems and collaborate with departments to ensure problem resolution are being followed up, completed, and communicated. Other duties as needed. 10% Qualifications, Experience, and SkillsBS Degree in Mechanical (or similar) Engineering.3-5 years of working in a professional racing environment, preferably in a track support role. Experience with high performance racing vehicles and substantial vehicle dynamics knowledge preferred. Emphasis in full vehicle analysis, or equivalent work experience.3 years of configuration, operation, and validation of vehicle dynamics simulation software: offline lap simulation, dynamic parametric models, multi-body models.3 years of processing and analysis of time-series data in time, frequency, and spatial domains (visualization, signal processing), using MATLAB or Python.Proficient with analysis of on-vehicle racing car data (logged data, telemetry, etc).Practical Experience with racing car set-up problems and methodologies.Familiar with test planning, execution, and data analysis using vehicle dynamics test rigs (CG Height/Inertia, Kinematics & Compliance, shaker rigs, damper dynamometer).Familiar with systematic design of experiments.Proficient in statistical analysis of experimental data.Proficient in the use of supervised machine learning technologies, for regression of non-linear models.Technical knowledge of vehicle dynamics principles and chassis systems: aerodynamics, suspension, tires, etc.Expert understanding of limit-handling vehicle dynamics principles, and their practical application.Proven ability to communicate information effectively both verbally and in written form to a wide variety of audiences.
