Job Description As the food safety subject matter expert, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of our customers and protecting our brand. You will collaborate with operations, merchandising, and stores, while participating in the development of new perishable merchandising programs. Your mission will include developing, updating, and administering food safety training across all levels of the organization. You will also engage in professional food safety committees and trade organizations, evaluating third-party food safety audit data to drive enhancements to our existing programs. Responsibilities Drive projects aimed at improving overall food safety performance within the division. Implement requirements from the corporate food safety team for audit effectiveness checks, timely reporting of activities and metrics, and participation in scheduled calls. Assess store processes, observe employee practices, and ensure compliance with food merchandising programs to uphold food safety and sanitation policies. Propose food safety measures for new merchandising plans, food production processes, store designs, and technologies, enhancing the safe handling of perishable foods. Build and maintain strong relationships with regulatory agencies and engage in community activities that showcase our commitment to food safety. Tailor food safety training programs, from Basic Food Safety to Certified Managers training, to the specific needs of the division, ensuring they remain current. Communicate relevant food safety matters to operations, merchandising, and store employees. Manage food safety content on the division's internal website, including policies, best practices, and resources. Keep key personnel informed about the latest scientific and technical developments in food safety. Actively participate in committees and organizations within the retail food industry. Facilitate consumer access to food safety education materials. Advance your food safety knowledge through relevant academic or professional certifications in food science or food safety. Capability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Qualifications Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in food science or a related field, or relevant retail experience in food operations. A minimum of 3 years in food safety management within retail, regulatory, or QSR environments. Strong understanding of food safety principles as outlined by the FDA Food Code and local regulations. Experience in food handling risk assessment and HACCP management in perishable departments. Current Certified Professional in Food Safety (CP-FS) certification (must obtain within six months of taking the position). Proficient in Microsoft Office and possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Desired Qualifications: Familiarity with store operations, food safety, and microbiological concepts. Knowledgeable about the FDA Food Code and relevant State Health Regulations.
