The Health and Welfare Council of Long Island (HWCLI) is a private, not for profit, health and human services planning, research/public education and advocacy organization that serves as the umbrella for public and non-profit agencies serving Long Island's vulnerable individuals and families. JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: Benefits Enrollment Coordinator HWCLI seeks an energetic, passionate, and socially conscious individual to support HWCLI's mission by coordinating our work as a National Council on Aging (NCOA) Benefits Enrollment Center (BEC). Reporting to the President & CEO and Development Director, the Benefits Enrollment Coordinator position is a non-clinical role that will assist eligible older adults and adults with disabilities in accessing critical public benefits. This role conducts screenings, provides application support, coordinates outreach, manages follow‑ups, and ensures high‑quality, person‑centered assistance across multiple benefit programs, including SNAP, Medicaid/Medicare Savings Programs (MSP), Extra Help/LIS, HEAP, and other public benefit programs Responsibilities Client Support & Benefits EnrollmentConduct benefits screenings using NCOA's BenefitsCheckUp® and other approved tools.Provide individualized assistance with completing and submitting benefit applications across multiple systems (e.g., SNAP, MSP, LIS/Extra Help, Medicaid).Offer phone-, virtual-, and in‑person appointments.Follow up with clients, agencies, and benefit providers to ensure applications are processed.Maintain accurate case notes, documentation, and outcomes in client management databases (Cumulus and Salesforce). Outreach & Community EngagementAssist in planning and executing outreach strategies aligned with BEC goals.Represent the organization at community events, senior centers, food pantries, libraries, health fairs, etc.Build relationships with partner agencies to create referral pathways and increase benefits access for target populations.Distribute materials and provide presentations about available benefits and BEC services. Data, Reporting & ComplianceEnsure accurate and timely data entry consistent with NCOA BEC guidelines and organizational standards.Assist with regularly timed reporting requirements.Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and all data‑security policies.Track client outcomes and support monitoring/evaluation processes. Program & Organizational SupportParticipate in staff meetings, professional development, and NCOA‑provided training.Contribute to continuous improvement of enrollment processes and outreach strategies.Support grant compliance and documentation requirements.Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications RequiredHigh school diploma or equivalent (Associate's or Bachelor's preferred).Experience in social services, case management, public benefits, aging services, or related fields.Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to work with older adults, individuals with disabilities, and culturally diverse communities.Ability to learn and navigate benefit application systems and screening tools, including but not limited to BenefitsCheckUp®.Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.Proficiency with Microsoft Office and comfort using online portals and CRMs. PreferredKnowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, MSP, Extra Help/LIS, and other aging/disability benefit programs.Experience conducting outreach or public presentations.Bilingual fluency (Spanish, Haitian Creole, etc.) is a strong plus. Work Environment & ExpectationsMix of office and community-based, remote work depending on organizational policy.Occasional evenings or weekends required for outreach events.Ability to travel locally to outreach sites (valid driver's license preferred but not required depending on location).
