USBP, a part of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), is urgently hiring for full-time, entry-level Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) positions. The salary and benefits are competitive: Annual Base Salary: Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents (BPAs) can expect salaries ranging from $49,739 to $89,518 per year, based on grade level and duty location. Eligible for up to an additional 25% of base pay after completing training due to the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This is a career ladder position that allows for progression through grade levels GL-5, GL-7, GL-9, GS-11, and GS-12 with promotions awarded based on performance. Incentives: Recruitment Incentive: Newly appointed BPAs may receive a total of up to $20,000, with the first $10,000 awarded after successful completion of the Border Patrol Academy. Retention Incentive: Newly appointed Agents can qualify for up to $40,000 distributed over their first four years. Duties and Responsibilities: As a BPA, your role will include: Detecting and questioning individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws. Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers. Conducting traffic, building, and farm checks as well as patrols using various government assets. Qualifications: For GL-5 Level: One year of general work experience or a bachelor’s degree. For GL-7 Level: One year of specialized work experience or a bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement. Requirements: Applicants must be U.S. citizens with at least three years of primary U.S. residency. Candidates must apply before reaching their 40th birthday, and veterans may qualify for exceptions. Training: Successful candidates will participate in a six-month training program at the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico, covering essential skills in law enforcement, physical techniques, and firearms training.
