Job Description:
Job Overview: Responsible for the evaluation, planning, directing, and administering of occupational therapy modalities of treatment as prescribed by a licensed physician. Administers treatments and occupational agents as prescribed by a referring physician to restore function and prevent disability following injury, disease, or physical disability. Assists patients/residents to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning, while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities. FTE: .8 or full time Responsibilities/Duties:Directs the certified staff, including Occupational Therapy Assistants, Occupational Therapy Aides, Occupational Therapy certification applicants, and Occupational Therapy students. Observes and evaluates treatment effects. Recommends a change to the physician, if needed. Performs an appropriate assessment of each patient/resident, as related to the therapy requested and provided, and reassessments, as per policy. This includes neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric patients/residents, and the general patient population. Able to assess patient/resident pain interfering with optimal level of function or participation in rehabilitation - makes appropriate physician contact for intervention. Performs all aspects of patient/resident care in an environment that optimizes patient/resident safety and reduces the likelihood of medical / health care errors Formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluates the effectiveness of learning; family is included in teaching, as appropriate. Interacts professionally with patient/resident/family and involves patient/resident/family in the formation of the plan of care. Coordinates and directs patient/resident care to ensure patients' / residents' needs are met and hospital/nursing home policy is followed. Consults other departments as appropriate to collaborate on patient/resident care and performance improvement activities. Participates in educational staff performance improvement in-services. Assists with orientation and in-service training for certified department staff members. Participates in guidance and educational programs. Ensures that patient charges are accurate and entered on a timely basis. Adheres to facility Service Standards. Performs other duties as assigned.
