Driftwood Healthcare Center-Hayward - FUNCTION Provides, plans coordinates or manages orientation and in-service education for facility employees. QUALIFICATIONS The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.Minimum Qualifications:• Freedom from illegal use of drugs• Freedom from use of and effects of use of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.• Anyone found guilty by a court of law of abusing, neglecting, or mistreating individuals in health care relatedsetting are ineligible for employment in the position.Education and/or Experience: Prefer a registered nurse with management or supervisorexperience in long term care or geriatric nursing. Minimum of licensed practical or vocationalnurse with experience in long term care of geriatric nursing.Certificates, Licensees, Registrations: Current state license to practice as a nurse. CurrentCPR certification and additional certification in nursing specialty desired. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read analyze and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmentregulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, nursing/patient progress notes and nursing procedures. Abilityto effectively present information and respond to questions from department heads, customers (patients, family members,physicians, etc.) and the general public. Computer skills preferred. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add and, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructionsfurnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Reasonableaccommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the key functions.Care and Services:• Responsible for facility education programs, including orientation and ongoing services.• Designs, plans and provides education programs on all shifts and for all departments.• Participate in staff evaluation process by providing attendance records and observation of employees’performance.• Provide general facility information to all new employees and ongoing in-service education.• Maintains currently education records of classes and content of in-service conducted, attendance andperformance of facility employees.• Plans and provides annual schedule of planed education programs.• Creates lesson plans containing objectives, course content, method of instruction and method of evaluation.• Applies adult learning principles.• If provided by the facility, conducts and maintains the nurse aide training program.• In charge of the facility in absence of high ranking management.• Accepts only those nursing assignments that are commensurate with one’s own educational preparation,experience, knowledge and ability and obtains instruction and supervision as necessary when implementingnursing procedures and practices.Resident RightsPromotes and protects resident’s rights, assists patients to make informed decision, treat patients with dignity andrespect, protect patients’ personal belongings, report suspected abused or neglect, avoids the need for physicalrestraint in accordance with current professional standards and, supports independence expression, choice anddecision-making consistent with applicable law and regulation.LeadershipDemonstrates willingness to try new tasks; generates new ideas for change; evaluates and recognized priorities,selects effective team members, challenges others to learn, keeps current and integrates new information,communicates and models organization values, foster high performance, recognizes need for and provides adequateresources.Process ImprovementApplies process improvement methods and techniques and identifies processes for improvement in daily work.Environment of CareDemonstrates understanding of fire and emergency procedures; participates in fire and disaster drills; demonstratesunderstanding of safety and security procedures; applies safety and security precautions; demonstratesunderstanding of hazardous materials plan; demonstrates proper use of equipment.Infection ControlApplies hand washing principles during daily work; demonstrates understanding of isolation precautions; recognizessigns and symptoms of infection and complies with the employee health program; demonstrates understanding of theprocess for identifying and handling infectious waste; maintain personal hygiene; complies with OSHA standards inthe workplace; and demonstrates understanding of cross-contamination.Information ManagementEnters or records data timely and accurately; protects confidentiality of resident information, protects data againstloss or destruction, logs on the system using own passwords, logs off the system when leaving the work station,reports suspected violation of security/confidentiality issues, reviews identifies trends and delete passwords ofemployees no longer needing access to software programs. Monitors and oversees facility’s efforts to comply withcompany policies, procedures and state and federal law.
