Description The Division of Arts & Letters is seeking a visiting lecturer to teach 4 courses in Fall 2026 and 4 courses in Spring 2027. Teaching needs include courses in the humanities and social sciences. The role requires experience instructing Introduction to Sociology, Social Problems, and additional courses appropriate to Hilbert College's student population. Experience working with students from varied academic majors, engaging students in small classes, and familiarity with the college's academic programs is a plus. Substantively, candidates can specialize in any area, although teaching and research interest in areas of social justice and social inequality is preferred. The faculty member is also expected to teach one section of the college's first-year foundational course during Fall 2026 and academically advise and mentor enrolled students throughout the academic year. If needed, the faculty member will also teach a section of College Writing. Job Duties and Responsibilities: Work collaboratively in a department that serves several majors and minors. Function as an integral part of the general education curriculum for all programs on campus, including first-year course responsibilities. Make appropriate preparations for the semester including syllabus preparation, preparation of lectures, preparation of tests and assignments as needed/appropriate, course material revision when needed, and provision of measurable objectives for student performance. Communicate effectively with students inside and outside of class such as in advisement. Stay current in field of expertise. Maintain office hours. Perform other teaching and advising duties as assigned or noted by supervisor. Responsibilities include the teaching of introductory and advanced courses in Sociology, the development of program and course level assessment protocols, curricular planning, and academic advisement of students in the program. The successful candidate may be asked to teach courses outside the major, such as the Hilbert Blueprint or College Writing, in support of the college's general education program. Full-time faculty appointments are for a ten-month period and the standard teaching load is twelve credit hours per semester. Student advisement and participation in departmental and college committees is required. Job Requirements: Experience teaching Sociology and English composition coursework at the college level. Experience teaching online asynchronously. Experience in curriculum design. Demonstrable research-based teaching practices. Proficient computer skills and the ability to deliver online instruction in a variety of platforms such as Blackboard. Strong and empathetic communication skills. Strong collaboration skills. Experience with program and course development, knowledge of assessment practices. Experience in student advisement preferred. Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree required.
