We offer end-to-end solutions—from design and installation to ongoing maintenance and emergency support—helping clients maximize building performance, energy efficiency, and equipment lifespan.Position SummaryThe Commercial Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is responsible for ensuring welding operations and completed work meet applicable codes, standards, and project specifications. This role conducts inspections, verifies compliance with AWS and industry standards, documents findings, and works closely with project managers, contractors, and field teams to maintain quality and safety throughout commercial construction and fabrication projects.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform visual and non-destructive inspections of welds in accordance with project specificationsEnsure compliance with applicable codes and standards (AWS, ASME, API, etc.)Review and interpret blueprints, welding procedure specifications (WPS), and construction documentsVerify welder qualifications and certificationsMonitor welding activities to ensure adherence to approved proceduresDocument inspection results and maintain detailed inspection reportsIdentify defects, non-conformances, and recommend corrective actionsCoordinate with project managers, engineers, and field supervisors regarding quality concernsEnsure compliance with company safety standards and OSHA regulationsMaintain inspection equipment and calibration recordsParticipate in project meetings as neededQualificationsCurrent AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification issued by American Welding Society3+ years of welding inspection experience in commercial or industrial environmentsStrong knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, etc.)Thorough understanding of applicable codes (AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, etc.)Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical specificationsExperience with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods preferredStrong documentation and reporting skillsExcellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilityOSHA certification preferredValid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites as requiredBenefits:Competitive salary based on experience.Health, dental, and vision insurance.Paid time off and holiday pay.Opportunities for professional development and certification assistance.Equal Employment Opportunity:Upchurch Companies provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants.
