Job Summary The Cardiovascular Technologist I performs a wide variety of technical functions including, but not limited to, recording physiological data, assistance with monitoring, scrub assistant to the cardiologist, equipment maintenance, quality control and inventory maintenance in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. Essential Job Functions * Performance of Technical Practice * Responsible for the operation, monitoring, and calibration of the hemodynamic recorder system including pressure gauges, transducers, electrocardiography, apex cardiograph, phonocardiograph and associated equipment employed during cardiac catheterization laboratory procedures. * Responsible for the operation of the computer during procedures, inputs patient data. * Responsible for managing all cardiac catheterization laboratory imaging. * If additional training has been provided, performs as the scrub assistant to the cardiologists. * Cleans and sets up the cardiac catheterization laboratory before each procedure. * Prepares reusable soiled instruments for return to Central Supply. * Disposes of non-reusable soiled instruments properly. * Assures that emergency equipment is present and functional. * Assumes primary responsibility for obtaining and maintaining supplies and inventory in a cost-effective manner. * Patient Care * Provides instruction/direction to patients and families * Prepares surgical site and drapes patient * Coordinates emergency procedures when necessary * Assists with arterial and venous sheath removal. * Performs clerical duties related to patient testing * Assists in the delivery of patients to the lab and the return of patients to their rooms. * Assists with PI activities as directed * Assists with retrieval of procedural medications under direction of the physician and/or circulating RN * Communication * Provides clear, concise, organized written and oral communication to management and team members. * Interacts effectively with physicians, patients, management and team members. * Written documentation is neat, timely and legible. * Serves as a liaison and positive role model to other departments. * Image and Conduct * Displays a courteous, professional image, at all times. * Presents a neat, clean, professional appearance. * Attends staff meetings and/or reads minutes. * Uses chain of command correctly * Serves as a positive role model * Adherence to Hospital/Departmental Policies. * Follows Independence Health System policies, including but not limited to: Mandatory education, Scheduling and Attendance, Safety, Infection Control. * Completes assignments during scheduled shift * Protects patient's rights and confidentiality * Performs other related functions as assigned. * Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications * Completion of a (JRCERT) accredited Radiologic Technology Program or Completion of an accredited school of cardiovascular technology * High School Diploma, GED or higher level of education. * One-year experience cardiac catherization, electrophysiology and/or radiology lab as a technologist. * Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment. * Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience. * Medical Terminology * Basic Math and Keyboard Proficiency * Basic working knowledge of computers and office equipment Preferred Qualifications * No preferred qualifications. License, Certification & Clearances * Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association (CPR and AED) program. * Current ACLS or completion within six (6) months of hire/transfer into department * Current Registry with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or CVT certification. Registry eligible at time of hire. Registry eligible hires must complete registry certification within 18 months. * Act 33 with renewal * Act 34 with renewal * Act 73 FBI Clearance. Supervisory Responsibilities * This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work * Incumbents will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.). * Travel may be expected locally between Independence Health locations.
