The Packaging Assistant is responsible for assisting in the successful completion of the packaging portion of the production schedule and identifying quality deficiencies and taking action to correct them. This position shares responsibility for maintaining Pasta Montana's food safety, quality and legality program under the BRC guidelines. Pasta Montana team members are expected to maintain a positive work atmosphere through communication and behaving in a manner that is courteous and respectful to all customers, vendors, contractors, co-workers, leads and management. Pasta Montana team members are also expected to have on-time, regular, reliable, and predictable attendance and must always be aware of and pay attention to their surroundings. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Packages product following all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Gains knowledge of and follows all food safety requirements including GMP's, HACCP and BRC. Follows work instructions/directives correctly. Fulfills packaging schedule in a safe and orderly manner. Maintains an accurate pack count in every case. Ensure cases are properly taped. Maintains good housekeeping principles at all times and maintains an organized and neat work area. Operates equipment safely and effectively. Communicate effectively and efficiently with all co-workers and departments. Ensures proper pallet configurations and layer count per finished product specifications. Strives to minimize pasta waste and prevent products from hitting the floor. Ensure bag and case codes are on the bag/case and they are correct. Physically ensures that bag seals are correct. Ensures that packaging materials are kept clean. Ability to learn and run equipment in the absence of Packaging Operator (PO). Communicates issues with product to the PO, Floater and/or Lead. When Line is stopped, work area/Line is to be swept, cleaned, vacuumed, and organized. At the end of shift, ensure that the work area is clean and ready for the next shift to start. Performs other duties as assigned by the PO, Floater, Lead and/or Packaging Manager. QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum Experience: Some prior plant or commercial experience preferred. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of packaging principles, processes and good manufacturing practices is helpful. Understanding of personnel and safety standards. Able to identify quality deficiencies and assist in correcting them. Able to function as a motivated team member in a highly dynamic environment. Able to work and communicate effectively in a team setting. Able to learn, troubleshoot and multi-task. Able to learn, troubleshoot and multi-task. Ability to use computer automated systems and software. Must be trainable, teachable, reliable, honest, trustworthy, and motivated.
