The City of Kentwood is seeking a Fleet Services Assistant Intern to support our Public Works Fleet Division. This internship is designed for students pursuing careers as light-duty or heavy-duty mechanics who want practical, real-world experience working alongside experienced Fleet Technicians. This is a seasonal internship and does not guarantee future full-time employment Pay & Perks $19.00 per hour Comprehensive on-the-job training Steel toe boot reimbursement Personal protective equipment (PPE) provided Discounts on City recreation programs and facility rentals What You'll Do As a Fleet Services Assistant Intern, you will support the Fleet Services team with a variety of hands-on tasks, including: Assisting technicians with vehicle and equipment inspections, maintenance, and troubleshooting Helping manage parts inventory and shop organization Cleaning and detailing City vehicles and equipment Maintaining tools and equipment inventory Supporting facility cleanliness and organization Participating in safety training and safe work practices Assisting other Public Works divisions when needed This role is a great opportunity for individuals interested in automotive repair, fleet management, mechanical work, or public service operations. What We're Looking For Our ideal candidate: Has a high school diploma or GED Holds a valid Michigan driver's license Has basic knowledge of vehicle systems and maintenance procedures Has a strong interest in mechanical trades and fleet operations Works well in a team environment Is dependable, detail-oriented, and eager to learn Previous experience with tools, vehicle maintenance, or shop environments is helpful but not required.
