Job Type Full-time Description POSITION TITLE: Lead Security Officer DEPARTMENT: Security Services/Administration GRADE: 105 FLSA: Non-Exempt FTE: 1.0 POSITION DESCRIPTION: Performs daily operation activities related to overseeing library security. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the direct supervision of the Associate Director SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Security Officers BENEFITS: This full-time position includes a full benefits package including health, dental, vision, life, AD&D, and supplemental insurance coverages as well as HRA and retirement savings. Benefits include vacation and sick leave, and 12 paid holidays. WAGE: $23.07-28.26 per hour DOE PLEASE NOTE: Include a cover letter and resume with the job application to be considered for an interview. Requirements ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:1. Oversee Security Operations Schedule personnel and resources so that all Mesa County Libraries and facilities are safe and welcoming places for guests, staff and volunteers. Assist Administration in organizing and establishing security priorities and coordinating activities for a safe and welcoming environment. Maintain security incident database and create reports upon request. Serve as MCL's Safety Coordinator including working with Human Resources Director to oversee Emergency and Safety Programs, and directly oversee the Safety Committee. Assist Facilities Manager with the monitoring and maintenance of the fire alarm systems, security camera systems, panic buttons, fire extinguishers, AEDs, emergency lights, and door lock codes/equipment. Prepare and approve purchase orders for security needs within Purchase Order requirements and procedures. Work with Administration to update and implement practices and procedures that maintain safe and secure library properties. Provide regular communication and feedback to always foster consistent security practices. 2. Library Security: Creates a welcoming, safe environment for all guests by being visible, greeting patrons, enforcing the Code of Conduct and de-escalating difficult interactions. Provides security coverage at each library location as scheduled. Makes frequent security rounds throughout the facility and adjacent property including parking lots to ensure the safety of library patrons, staff members, volunteers, and property. Is knowledgeable of the Emergency Action Plan for each location. Secures library premises and property throughout the day and at closing time. Provides security support for other MCL locations by monitoring security cameras and providing phone support appropriately. Maintains records, documents incidents, and follows safety procedures consistently. Communicates issues, questions and concerns with Supervisor, Managers or staff as needed. 3. Supervise Security Staff: Determine shift schedules/workload, and delegate assignments for security staff. Coordinate and/or perform initial and ongoing training for security staff. Monitor and evaluate performance of security staff with Associate Director review. Assist Administration in hiring, and corrective or disciplinary actions related to the security department. Schedule security for MCL locations providing coverage as needed to be visible and available during the most critical times. 4. Other Duties: Performs additional duties as opportunities arise that assist MCL in achieving stated goals and objectives. Transports items to other locations and assists with maintenance and custodial duties as necessary and provides customer service when needed. SECONDARY fUNCTIONS: Communicates clearly in-person and via email and other electronic tools consistently and in a timely manner. Works with others to complete assignments. Performs additional duties as opportunities arise that assist the department and the library in achieving specified goals and objectives. Stays informed on developments of Mesa County Libraries services and trends: Attends monthly staff meetings and training; attends external training as requested, stays aware of changes via email and staff wiki. May participate in and contribute to library committees and activities. LEAD SECURITY OFFICER COMPETENCIES Integrity/Ethics Communication People Development LIBRARY CORE COMPETENCIES Customer Focus Adaptability/Flexibility Initiative Organizational Savvy Teamwork REQUIRED EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS: High School graduation or equivalent Five years of previous public safety experience Proficiency in word processing software, Internet and electronic mail KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS: Skill in communication and de-escalation Skills in supervisory work Ability to exercise quick, mature judgment in diverse situations, including disruptive, physically dangerous, verbally/physically abusive people and emergencies Ability to work with a diverse group of people within a fast-paced work environment Ability to complete concise and grammatically correct reports Ability to operate a variety of library equipment in a safe and effective manner Proficiency in word processing software, Excel, Internet, electronic mail, and other technologies Ability to effectively use Google Suite and staff wiki Skill in understanding and applying oral, written, illustrated or demonstrated instructions Knowledge of building safety and security sufficient to be able to respond to a variety of emergency and urgent situations Knowledge of safety hazards and necessary safety precautions sufficient to be able to establish a safe working environment Ability to learn and maintain a current awareness of library principles, practices, procedures and methods.
