POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Camp Director, the Unit Leader aids in supervising and effectively leading a group of campers and counselors in daily camp activities. Unit Leaders provide a safe and nurturing environment for campers and are actively involved and have a positive attitude about all camp activities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Evaluates and mentors staff Plans and directs all unit activities. Ensures camper and staff safety during summer program Supervises unit activities and staff that meet State and YMCA ratios and regulations. Assists Camp Director/Assistant Camp Director in the planning and implementation of full camp activities. Assists Camp Director/Assistant Camp Director in the planning and implementation of Family Nights. Assists in staff training Works a table at check in or check out Does a daily check ins with groups Deals with second step of camper discipline-homesick problems Writes evaluations on each unit staff member mid-summer Any other duties assigned QUALIFICATIONS:Minimum 18 years of age. Experience working with children. Certifications: Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR/AED, and First Aid. Completion of required trainings. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT: Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds in weight. Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
