Summary About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency (DHA). It is located within the Directorate of Executive Hospital Safety at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Eisenhower in Augusta, Georgia. The primary purpose is to protect personnel and prevent the damage or loss of property within Army Medical hospitals, government leased facilities, and other DHA activities. This is an open continuous announcement. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. Duties Help Maintain records and prepare required reports pertaining to security function include a daily staff journal. Maintain surveillance over facility. Investigate abnormal activities and/or conditions that are possibly detrimental to patients and staff. Prevent unauthorized access to facilities and protect hazardous and/or restricted areas. Perform traffic control when needed to include inclement weather. Requirements Help Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968, if not able to obtain or maintain this standard must be immediately removed from all security duties involving the handling, carrying, or transferring of firearms. This position requires incumbent to complete a pre-employment physical, physical agility, and psychological examinations and annual thereafter to ensure the required level of physical health and ability to perform the duties of the position. Must possess and maintain a valid US state and local government driver's license. This position is under the Federal Motor Operations medical requirement specified in 5 Code of Federal Regulations Section 930 Part 109; persons operating a Government owned or leased vehicle are subject to medical testing once every 4 years. This position may require a character investigation to secure incumbent's honesty, integrity, general character, and loyalty to the U.S. Government. This position has the following medical requirements; good near and distant vision, ability to distinguish basic colors, and ability to hear the conversational voice. This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident. This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations. This position is required to work uncommon tours of duty hours such as, on-call, working either fixed or rotating shifts, evenings, weekends and/or holidays. Incumbent must not have any criminal convictions, nor receive any while employed in this position. Firearms testing and successful qualification to service component published standards required on a semi-annual basis. This may include firing at night, with one hand, or while under time or physical stress. Position requires employee to perform routine/emergency daily duties while wearing a uniform and/or protective clothing weighing several pounds. This position may require incumbent to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment and a uniform. Incumbent must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments. This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Advanced Certifications (ACLS, ATLS, PALS, APLS, etc.). Employee must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR and first aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency. This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire). Required to be screened for and may be required to obtain necessary immunizations/vaccinations (hepatitis, Tuberculosis, influenza, etc.), unless exempted by a licensed physician. This position is subject to the Lautenberg amendment to the gun control act of 1968 which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition. Required to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience such as work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Education See Qualification Section for Education. ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:You will be prepared to execute the lawful orders of critical incident commanders, military or civilian, and assigned duties as such. During such actual emergencies/ critical incidents, you may incur, without prior notice, extra shifts, long hours standing at security or traffic control posts, extended duty hours between meal breaks, and working outdoors in inclement weather for extended periods of time. Such duties, even if performed properly may place you in danger of severe personal injury, loss of limb, or even death. This position requires 5% Travel outside of the commuting area.
