Job Description:
Principal Consumer Credit Examiner The Maine Bureau of Consumer Credit Protection is seeking a Principal Consumer Credit Examiner to play a key role in protecting the public by examining finance companies and money transmitters for violations of applicable laws. If you enjoy complex work, and bringing enforcement actions this role offers meaningful impact and variety every day. In this position, you'll help ensure that consumers who borrow money to buy automobiles, homes and other consumer goods are treated fairly. As a Principal Examiner, you will provide supervision and training to consumer credit examiners. Your responsibilities will include: Conducting examinations of consumer lenders. Training and supervising staff in the conduct of examinations of lenders, including meeting with company representatives, drafting examination reports and conducting exit interviews Identifying violations of applicable laws and bringing appropriate cases to the Attorney General's office for possible legal action. Interpreting statutes and recommending amendments where needed. Ensuring compliance with state laws, rules, confidentiality standards, and information security policies. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented and comfortable working in a regulatory environment. In addition, they will have: Experience creating and following examination procedures Knowledge of Maine consumer lending laws, or the ability to quickly learn this material. Strong organizational skills and advanced written and verbal communication abilities. The ability to analyze financial statements. Comfort learning and using multiple computer systems and applications. Ability to teach and supervise examiners Minimum qualifications: Four (4) years experience in the examination of consumer credit institution policies and practices and a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or related field. Comparable work experience may be substituted for educational requirements on a year-for-year basis. Preferred qualifications: Experience in administrative enforcement actions.
