Position Type: Administration/Educator On Spec Assign T & LDate Posted: 3/27/2026Location: Central Office Special Education - 8010Date Available: 8/3/2026Behavior Specialist K-12: Teacher on Special AssignmentPosition PurposeUnder the general supervision of the Director of Special Education, to support school staff and administrators by planning and coordinating the implementation of services provided to students in conformance with district policies and state objectives, as well as applicable law. Essential FunctionsMaximizes the learning experience of students with special needs, specifically behavior difficulties, in academics, interpersonal skills and activities of daily living by implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities, outcomes; addressing students' specific needs; providing a safe and optimal learning environmentConsults with staff at all schools/ levels to support students with behavioral needsConducts observations and offers suggestions for behavior interventionsConducts Functional Behavior Assessments and creates Behavior Intervention Plans for studentsParticipates and assists in developing Individual Educational Plans ("IEP") for studentsParticipates in and models MindSet Safety Management ProgramAssists students and teaching staff in implementing students' IEP's and behavior management plansCoordinates with outside agencies, organizations and institutions, including state and federal authorities as neededCoordinates with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual student's abilities and needs, including students with special needs, and to familiarize stakeholders with social work servicesServes as ready resource to students and parents to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and behavioral management; serves as liaison between home and schoolContinues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research, and by maintaining professional relationships with members of institutions of higher learning and the business communityOrganizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping and providing student information, as required by district procedures and applicable lawsEncourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parentsAssists in the orientation of new teachers, and provides in-service trainingPerforms other related tasks as assigned by central office administrators as designated by the SuperintendentDemonstrates knowledge of Special Education principles, theories, testing, methods, etc. as well as proven methods of maximizing the educational experience of students with special needsAssists in developing and administering the school district's special services programs consistent with school district goals and objectives, as well as applicable law.Supports school level special education staff to ensure the implemetation of special services and programsAssists in serving as LEA; creating, attending & developing Individualized Education Plans with school Special Education StaffCoordinates and attends meetings with district staff and parents, serves on committees, and conducts professional development as needed to fulfill responsibilities.Georgia Certification in Special EducationExperience teaching Special EducationAdditional DutiesPerforms other related tasks as assigned by the Superintendent.
