TITLE: Assistant Building PrincipalQUALIFICATIONS: NYS SBL or SAS REPORTS TO: Building Principal SUPERVISES: Teachers Teacher Aides Building Secretary (Keyboard Specialist) Students BASIC FUNCTION: The primary goal of the Assistant Building Principal is to assist with the leadership necessary to promote and insure the educational development of all students. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: (this list is illustrative and not all-inclusive) Works directly under the Principal to ensure the smooth overall operation of the school. Participates in a school climate that values safety, respect, and responsibility. Utilizes collegial feedback to promote best practices in education. Assists with the establishment and maintenance of an effective learning climate throughout the school building. Assists the Principal in the development, implementation, improvement, and evaluation of the instructional program ensuring conformance to state standards, the District's mission statement, and Board of Education goals and policies. Confers with teachers, students, and parents concerning educational and behavioral problems in school. Supports committees of staff and parents that function to improve the learning and social environment of the school for the students. Establishes effective communication and maintains positive relationships with district administrative offices, students, staff, parents, and community. Student Discipline: Under the direction of the Principal, promotes high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according to students' due process rights - assumes responsibility for the safety, conduct, and well-being of students while on school grounds or while under school supervision Makes decisions and solves problems by analyzing information and selecting the best solution, along with developing cooperative and constructive relationships. Performs daily administrative tasks such as processing paperwork and preparing or maintaining information files, records, and reports. Provides counsel and guidance to students regarding academic, personal, and behavioral issues. Promotes high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according to students' due process rights - assumes responsibility for the safety, conduct, and well-being of students while on school grounds or while under school supervision Assists in yearly teacher evaluations, assisting in providing guidance to staff and manages the teachers, counselors, staff, and students on a daily basis Assists the principal with directing assemblies and other special gatherings of students and events Assists and enforces emergency response procedures (safety measures) Reviews and approves or recommends modifications to new or existing programs and then submits their proposals to the Principal Develop partnerships with communities or organizations to help meet educational needs Assists in the preparation of the master schedules, staff assignments, student scheduling, accumulative records, and attendance reports Attends special events held to recognize student achievement, and attends school-sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events when possible Responsible for assisting in the coordination of New York State examinations Assists in coordinating academic intervention services Assists the Curriculum Coordinator with assigned duties Responsible for Principal's duties in the absence of the Principal Other duties as assigned by the Building Principal which are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles. Knowledge of K-12 school curriculum and concepts in multiple areas, including regular and special education, as well as elementary, middle and high school levels. Knowledge of best practices in administration, program evaluation and staff supervision. Ability to prepare oral or written communications, such as presentations, reports, memoranda, letters, grant proposals, curriculum documents, etc. Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education, special education, individuals with disabilities, etc. Ability to assist with the on-going instructional programs for the District for the purpose of improving the quality of instruction. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, parents, community and others contacted in the course of work. Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed. Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. Ability to organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to leadership, performance and professional growth. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year in accordance with the current negotiated agreement. EVALUATION: Review by the Building Principal at periodic intervals. Formal evaluation to be in accordance with Board's policy as it applies to the Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
