FREWSBURG CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT NOTICE OF ANTICIPATED VACANCYSchool Secretary (CSE Office) - Provisional AppointmentThis position is being filled on a provisional basis pending the outcome of a future dated Civil Service examination for this title.COMPETITIVE CLASS2025-2026 School Year The Frewsburg Central School District serves over 700 PreK-12 students housed in two buildings on separate campuses. The district encompasses 75 square miles in the southeastern portion of Chautauqua County. The district is located approximately three miles east of the City of Jamestown. The population of the school district is estimated to be 4,500. Our population is centered around the unincorporated village of Frewsburg and comprises five townships which include: Carroll, Poland, Busti, South Valley, and Kiantone. QUALIFICATIONS: Promotional: Candidates must be permanently employed in the competitive class in a Chautauqua County school or Erie 2 BOCES and must be serving or have served that school, or Erie 2 BOCES continuously on a permanent basis as an Account Clerk, Account Clerk-Typist, Clerk II, Clerk II (Database), Clerk II (Dietary), Clerk II (Spanish Speaking), Data Entry Operator, Health and Attendance Clerk, Stenographer, Stenographer II, Telephone Operator-Typist, Typist, Typist II, Typist II (Spanish Speaking) or Ward Clerk for two (2) years immediately preceding the date of the written test. Open Competitive - Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and: Two (2) years of clerical experience involving customer service; OR Completion of an Associate's degree or two-year business college program in a secretarial science or business administration; OR Completion of 60 semester credit hours with a concentration in business administration or secretarial science; OR An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of A, B & C above. REPORTS TO: Building Principal (Director of PPS, if assigned to the CSE Office) DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is important clerical work that involves responsibility for the smooth and efficient operation of a school district office requiring the exercise of independent judgment and a general understanding of departmental procedures and policies. Employees in this class perform a wide variety of clerical and typing duties while working with faculty, staff, students, parents and visitors. This position differs from lower-level clerical titles by being a lead assistant in coordinating tasks of lower-level workers and/or performing complex operations independently involving office or school-wide operations. Work is performed under general supervision for routine matters requiring ordinary courtesy and tact. Unusual problems are referred to a supervisor before action is taken. Supervision may be exercised over a small number of clerical assistants. Does related work as required. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: Answers telephone and acts as receptionist for an office; Performs general office duties (which may include taking dictation), handling general correspondence and reports, filing; Acts as information clerk where a general knowledge of personnel, organization, department activities and established practices are involved; Prepares, copies, and distributes bulletins, notices and other announcements as required; Assists in preparation and follow-up of annual budget; Prepares requisitions for and maintains supplies for the office or department; Distributes mail and supplies to staff; May handle petty cash accounts; May maintain master schedule for an office; Composes and types routine correspondence; Types, processes, checks, codes and files requisitions, claims, vouchers, bills and receipts; May assign work, review and record work done, and instruct new employees in the specialized clerical work of a unit; Collects fees and accounts for monies received; Assists in proofreading typewritten and printed material; Reviews reports and other documents for completeness, accuracy and conformity with established procedure; Answers telephone, gives routine information to the public and makes appointments for superior; Enters and retrieves computer database records. Sets up and maintains current records pertaining to student enrollment; Keeps journal of early dismissals, prepares and submits attendance reports; Attends to students sent to the office for discipline; Maintains "lost and found". FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment; good knowledge of business arithmetic and English; ability to type accurately at a reasonable rate of speed; ability to operate a visual display terminal and an office copier; ability to learn organization, functions, rules, policies and regulations of the department; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to meet and deal effectively with faculty, staff, students, parents and visitors; ability to write legibly; ability to handle routine details independently; clerical aptitude; mental alertness; good judgment; accuracy, neat appearance; tact and courtesy; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year in accordance with the Board's policy and Frewsburg United School Employees Contract. EVALUATION: Formal evaluation to be in accordance with Board's policy.
