Job Description:
Kindred Hospital Tarrant County Southwest is a long-term acute care (LTAC) hospital specializing in the treatment of patients recovering from post-intensive care and medically complex conditions. Our hospital provides both intensive care and telemetry-level services, offering advanced monitoring and support for patients requiring extended medical care. Job Summary Under general supervision, Performs and reports routine and special laboratory tests on clinical specimens to aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients. Essential Functions Performs analyses in hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, coagulation, blood bank and microbiology according to expected performance standards. Performs venipuncture, finger stick, or heel stick on identified patients by physician's request in a timely, accurate and caring manner. Keeps documented records current regarding maintenance and quality control. Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical supervisor, clinical consultant, or director Follow the laboratory's established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Comprehensive knowledge of applicable safety, quality control, and specimen handling guidelines and procedures. Skilled in using applicable laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, meters, microscopes, incubators, pipettes, autoclaves, and sterilizers. Ability to work quickly and accurately when under strict deadlines. Considerable knowledge of the theory and practice of clinical laboratory methods and instrumentation. Working knowledge of anatomy, physiology, laboratory medicine, disease processes, and laboratory procedures. Ability to maintain confidentiality of all patient and/or employee information to assure patient and/or employee rights are protected. Must read, write and speak fluent English. Must have good and regular attendance. Approximate percent of time required to travel: 0% Performs other related duties as assigned. QualificationsEducation Associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution Licenses/Certifications Current license issued by the State in which the laboratory is located, if such licensing is required. Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by a nationally recognized agency/board preferred. Current BLS preferred. Experience 1-2 years acute care hospital lab experience in high complexity testing preferred.
