GIS (Geographic Information System) Intern 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (may vary) | Flexible Schedule Based on Academic Commitments Are you a tech-curious, detail-oriented problem solver ready to map, analyze, and improve Fort Wayne's utility systems?What You'll Do Work alongside GIS Analysts, engineers, and interns to maintain, analyze, and innovate with spatial data. Gain experience with ESRI GIS software, AI tools, and automation processes that improve workflows and support Fort Wayne's water and wastewater infrastructure. Key Responsibilities Maintain and update GIS data, assets, and attributes Analyze and link data from multiple sources for mapping and planning Produce maps and visualizations using GIS software Support AI pilots, automation initiatives, and advanced GIS projects Assist with data management, research, and City training modules What You Bring Pursuing a degree in GIS, Computer Science, or related field Minimum of two years of college completed Interest in environmental engineering (water and wastewater) preferred Experience with Python or other scripting languages, AI, or data science Creative, detail-oriented, tech-savvy, and proactive Preferred Certifications Valid Indiana Driver's License, or Valid driver's license with certified driving record if using a City vehicle Skills & Knowledge Ability to read, interpret, and analyze technical and spatial data Effective communication skills for meetings and presentations Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities Familiarity with AI concepts, LLMs, prompt engineering, and data ethics Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and innovation mindset Why Work for the City of Fort Wayne Build career-ready GIS and data science skills while supporting critical utility infrastructure.
