Vocational/Technical degree with training emphasis in automotive repair and maintenance preferred. Three (3) years of experience in the automotive service industry preferred. Must possess and maintain throughout employment, a valid Florida driver license without any restrictions affecting job performance. Driver license must show current address. All candidates must submit with the application, a Certified Department of Motor Vehicles "entire" driving history. Florida driving histories can be obtained at any courthouse in Broward County. Three (3) year, seven (7) year, and online Florida driving history records will not be accepted. If you have possessed a driver's license in any other state in the past ten (10) years you will need to submit an "entire" driving history from that state. For non-Florida driving histories, please contact that state's division of motor vehicles. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) or Automotive Manufacturer Certifications preferred.Nature of Work Under administrative direction, the purpose of the position is to assist in all aspects of general maintenance and administration of the agency's automotive fleet within the Fleet Services Section of the Broward Sheriff's Office. Position oversees and monitors fuel sites, maintains vehicles and vehicle maintenance records; administers the allocation of new or reassigned vehicles; and ensures procurement of necessary fleet supplies. Work is carried out under the direction of a fleet supervisor who reviews the work for conformity with departmental policies and procedures. Performs related work as directed. Essential Functions/Physical Requirements The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. Issues, replaces and cancels vehicle Fleet Keys, SUNPASS and Fuel Cards. Maintains fuel sites; monitors fuel inventory; orders fuel; generates all required reports and maintains fuel database on Fleet computer network; ensures site compliance with local, state and federal ordinances. Inspects vehicles for possible damage and proper equipment; issues vehicle(s); assists with the allocation of new or reassigned vehicles to requesting departments/bureaus/divisions. Oversees the decommissioning of dead lined vehicles from fleet inventory; prepares vehicles for sale at auction including all associated paperwork. Determines probability of resale value for parts salvage and/or recycling. Removes parts from deadline vehicles, inventories and stores parts for distribution to BSO contracted vendors. Inventories, stocks, and shelves emergency unit materials and supplies, e.g., flares, fire extinguishers, cages, fuel conditioner, batteries, hurricane supplies. Performs the evaluation of forfeiture/confiscated vehicles to determine if they should be released into the fleet or sold at auction. Liaison with the Legal Department for the transfer of forfeiture/confiscated vehicles to the Forfeiture Unit; coordinates the release of confiscated vehicles and personal property accordingly. Maintains, administers, issues, and tracks pool loaner car vehicles. Performs special projects as directed by the Fleet Service Supervisor. Prepares purchase requests for shop and office materials needed; maintains records of all materials used in order to monitor inventory levels. Maintains logs and reports of activities for all work in progress. Maintains and updates assigned vendor and vehicle maintenance records. Oversees new vehicle receiving, tag and title work. Routinely starts and performs minor preventative maintenance on vehicles stored in Forfeiture/Contraband warehouse. May respond to callouts as required. May operate an agency vehicle. Performs related duties as directed. Tasks involve the intermittent performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds). Tasks are performed in a detention environment where proper provisions are in place in terms of employee security and protection. Due to the nature and location of the work environment, tasks include potential for intermittent exposure to disagreeable elements consistent with routine conditions in a detention facility. Some tasks include working around moving parts, carts, and materials handling where physical risks are predictable and/or controllable by observance of standard safety precautions.
