Salary: $19.00 - $21.00 Hourly Location : Faribault, MN Job Type: Seasonal Job Number: 2026-013 Department: Highway Opening Date: 02/27/2026 Closing Date: Continuous Job SummaryFIRST REVIEW OF APPLICATIONS APRIL 1ST Rice County is currently seeking a Seasonal Highway Engineer to assist in Rice County's Engineering Department for the 2026 construction season. Rice County is located in southern Minnesota, about 50 miles south of the Minneapolis and St. Paul metropolitan area. The county, which encompasses an area of 516 square miles, has seven cities and 14 townships. Examples of Duties Provide roadway and bridge construction oversite. Assist survey crew, perform materials testing, project inspection and documentation. Assist with the design and development of construction plans. Collect and transport material samples from construction site to materials lab. Receive and maintain volume and weight ticket records on construction sites. Assists with permits and transportation programs. Communicates effectively with the public, contractors and engineers. Requires work on roads, ditches, fields and highway right of way. Exposure to weather, dust, exhaust fumes and heavy construction traffic. Assist highway maintenance operators. Drive and operate county vehicles. Other duties as assigned. QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED and valid Driver's License. This position requires walking, standing, lifting and bending to a significant degree for an extended period of time. Ability to work extended hours and some Saturdays required. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Previous related experience or education in construction management, engineering and/or surveying. Supplemental InformationHOURS: Variable, Monday - Friday with some Saturdays. Seasonal position with an approximate start date of May 2026 and an approximate end date of September 2026.
