Job Description:
The Martin County Library is currently accepting applications for a Summer Intern for 2026. The summer Library Intern is responsible for assisting the with the daily summer programs and events at the library. As well as providing customer service to the library patrons. This is a temporary position during the summer months, May through August – approximately 30 to 35 hours per week. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESAssist with children’s programming and events, including preparation, set-up, and take down. Work at the circulation desk and assist with general library operations and customer service. Register children and families in the summer reading program. Collect and count summer programming statistics. Assists patrons in all aspects of library use, including patrons with varying socioeconomic backgrounds and intellectual abilities. Advises patrons on how to find materials using the online catalog and within the library itself. Assists patrons with the use of e-collections and public access computers. Assists with various projects at the request of the Library Director and Assistant Library Director. Performs other work-related duties as required. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties performed by personnel so classified. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEHigh School Diploma or equivalent. Some college in Library Science preferred. Less than one year of progressive experience in related field along with the skills, knowledge and abilities required. LICENSUREValid driver’s license. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESConsiderable knowledge of customer service functions and the ability to respond to and serve patrons in an effective, efficient and helpful manner. Ability to operate computers, tablets and mobile devices and other general office equipment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Ability to learn new software programs and web-based systems as necessary. The qualifications listed above are guidelines. Other combinations of education and experience could provide necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform this job.
