The primary responsibility of this role is to lead external vendor strategy and performance to optimize cost, quality, and throughput across outsourced operations. The Outside Services Manager oversees all outsourced material procurement for the facility, including sourcing, competitive bidding, contract negotiation, and supplier relationship management. This role drives process improvements at vendor sites while ensuring production scheduling and planning remain accurate, aligned, and operationally consistent. Attend daily production meetings to draft production commitments or timetables using sales forecasts and work in progress (WIP). Review production schedules to determine material requirements or material priorities. Source, bid, negotiate, administer, and manage materials purchases. Calculate, requisition, and maintain inventories of materials and supplies necessary to meet production demands. Enter production documentation into the system. Build OSP WIP scheduling tools visible to organization. Maintaining optimal inventory levels and reviewing inventory levels for surplus, slow moving, obsolete, and end-of-life materials Maintain contact with suppliers to stay abreast of product and materials availability and timely delivery. Communicate with Production and Customer Service on delays, interruptions, difficulties, and reprioritization. Oversee the revision and distribution of production schedules as necessary due to labor or material shortages, backlogs, etc. collaborating with sales and management. Confer with CPP personnel, vendors, or customers to coordinate production and shipping activities to resolve complaints or eliminate delays. Monitor and report on plant compliance with Sales plan. Manage vendor relations, vendor risk assessments, and rate/readiness. Manage vendor pricing agreements, including Terms & Conditions, and negotiate pricing. This includes an awareness and understanding of the volume of parts purchased and options for alternative suppliers. Facilitate vendor visits and audits (in conjunction with Quality). Oversee the resolution of invoicing issues related to Purchase Orders. Run lead time reports, analyze data, and determine actions to implement accordingly. Meet with Sales and Customer Service to discuss long-term forecasts (2+ months) and changes. Maintain safety stock inventory levels for both finished goods and raw materials. Oversee the daily workflow and schedules of the department. Conduct performance evaluations that are timely and constructive. Handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy. Review proposals to make supplier selections. Obtain, document, and tabulate quotes on items covered by existing contracts and researching and resolving discrepancies with suppliers. Monitor and gather data related to planned cost savings initiatives against actual savings and reporting information to management. Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations. Comply with all safety, DOT, HAZMAT, and environmental policies and procedures. Work on/participate in special projects as needed or assigned by Management. Supervise OSP dock employees. Responsible for freight decisions. QUALITY Responsible for ensuring standardized work is in place for all processes and adherence to quality process. Responsible for prevention of defects and scraps. Lead, support and plan improvement using Systematic Problem Solving. Establish training plan and targets for critical jobs. Provide and oversee training and cross training plans. Apply and coach lean principles. PRODUCTIVITY Establish the standard condition and ensure quality throughput with vendors. Create weekly production schedule for vendors. Ensure production goals and schedules are accomplished. Follow Leader Standard Work. Responsible for implementing improvement plans. Responsible for resource planning in preparation for new product. Responsible for the Daily Accountability process for outside vendors COST Ensure problems are correctly identified and cost-effective solutions are implemented. Initiate improvements to save on material and energy costs. Responsible for performance reviews of direct reports. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree; or five years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in sourcing and managing outside vendors Experience with production control systems (SAP, Oracle, Siteline) managing and improving supply chain data, information, and processes. Experience in the casting or metals industry strongly preferred. Professional communication skills are essential when conversing and negotiating with suppliers. Exceptional ability to conceptualize large-picture projects and foresee challenges and needs to be addressed. Top-level understanding of all aspects of supply chain processes Ability to research companies and determine the best suppliers to reach out to for various projects. Previous experience with Supply Chain Management is required. Experience working in and maintaining databases using Microsoft Excel and others relevant to company processes.
