The Psychology Program Manager reports to the Chief of Mental Health & Behavioral Sciences and is responsible for upholding the highest standards for psychologists and psychology as a profession. This team consists of four professional supervisory psychologists at the GS-14 level, 50 psychologists at the GS-13 level in MH&BS, 3 GS-13 level psychologists in the War Related Illness Study Center, 7 GS-13 psychologists in various medical services and the Center for Wellness and Recovery, eight psychology interns, two post-doctoral psychology fellows, three pre-doctoral psychology externs, and one secretary. The Psychology Program Manager is responsible for the administrative and credentialing aspects of the Psychology Section in Mental Health & Behavioral Sciences (MH&BS), as well as psychologists in non-mental health areas of the hospital. They oversee the professional and technical services of psychologists at VA New Jersey, which are highly complex and broad in scope. MH&BS psychologists provide clinical services on two campuses, East Orange and Lyons, nine community-based outpatient clinics, two PRRC treatment centers, a time-limited case management program, and dual diagnosis services. This position also includes program management responsibilities for a Mental Health program, such as PCMHI, Compensation and Pension, or neuropsychology. The Psychology Program Manager is expected to make decisions with a wide degree of latitude and independent judgment. * Responsible for the functions and efficiencies of the Psychology Department within Mental Health and for maintaining all professional accreditations and standards for psychologists at the East Orange and Lyons Medical Centers and associated CBOCs, both within and outside of Mental Health. * Develop, implement, and evaluate productivity standards for psychologists, in collaboration with Mental Health leadership and program managers, to support equitable workloads and high-quality Veteran care across multiple program lines at NJ VAHCS and the VISN. * Exercise broad independent judgment in decisions related to staffing, service delivery, workflow, and clinical operations, including resolving complex issues that affect patient care and interdisciplinary coordination. * Provide direct clinical care as needed, which may include evidence-based individual, group, or couples therapy; psychological assessments; and consultation services. * Support and enhance the training mission by overseeing supervision, training experiences, and professional development for psychology trainees at multiple levels, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards. * Collaborate with facility, VISN, and national program offices to align psychology services with strategic priorities, quality improvement initiatives, and interdisciplinary care models.
