Serves as the point of contact for all payroll related issues. Assists with various audits that are performed each year. Provides excellent customer service to all staff and external vendors. As a member of the Central Services team, learns other job functions and serves as a backup to other team members as needed. Essential FunctionsProcesses payroll and ensures all payroll reports are filed with appropriate governmental agencies. Maintains records and manages information related to the YMCA retirement fund Maintains files and stores payroll records. Reconcile payroll discrepancies by investigating variances and resolving issues in a timely manner. Support benefits administration by auditing enrollment data and verifying accuracy of medical, dental, vision, retirement, and other benefit deductions. Cross-check payroll and benefits system data to ensure proper alignment of employee elections, employer contributions, and vendor invoices. Assist the Finance Leadership Team in creating reports and doing analytical work with payroll data for management and the finance committee of the board of directors. Prepares and makes necessary journal entries as assigned by the Finance Leadership Team. Assist and works with Finance Leadership Team and auditors in completion of annual audit. Assists the Leadership Team to provide needed information for various audits that may be conducted by outside agencies such as grant funders. Assist the Leadership Team, client YMCAs and department directors by providing historical payroll information for developing the annual budget. Work as a member of the Central Services cross-functional team learning other departmental duties and backing up team members, as needed. Respond to all staff, member, and client inquiries expeditiously, and within 24 business hours, when possible. Supervisory Responsibility This position does not have any staff supervisory responsibilities. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position and hours would depend on the needs of the department. This is not a remote position and is expected to work in-person. Travel Travel will be necessary to other office locations for the Lake Superior YMCA and local and regional YMCA and non-YMCA trainings, meetings and events. Required Education & Experience:Demonstrated expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced formulas, pivot tables, data validation, and complex payroll data analysis to ensure accuracy and efficiency in payroll processing. Associates degree in Accounting or related field In absence of a degree, experience in a payroll position will suffice depending on experience. Understanding of basic accounting concepts Proficient in all standard business software. Ability to work with integrity, discretion and a professional approach Ability to work with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.) Certifications: CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent, and Basic First Aid (required). Training can be provided upon hiring, and must be obtained within 60 days. Higher levels of certification are accepted. Preferred Education & Experience:Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent. Two or more years related accounting experience preferably in a nonprofit setting. Experience with ADP or PayCom payroll software and QuickBooks. Additional Eligibility Qualifications Must be able to pass a background check.
