Job Description:
Responsible for the strategic and operational aspects of the dental clinic. The CDO will ensure quality care to patients and serve as a liaison between the dental department and administration and collaborate with other senior leaders to guide the strategic direction of the Health Center. The CDO will guide strategic direction of the clinic, oversee and champion expansion of services, provide direct dental care to patients, and lead educational efforts with dental residents through the Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) Program. Essential Duties: Essential job duties for this position include the following items. Other duties must be performed as assigned or required. * Participate in the development and implementation of the organization's mission, vision, and values, including the delivery of high quality, focused care. * Provide dental services as a practicing member of the dental provider team. * Provide a strong day-to-day leadership presence for all dental department staff. * Sources and recruits qualified dental staff for the clinic, collaborating with Human Resources as required * Support an open-door policy and coordinate all performance management for direct reports including providers. * Oversee the day-to-day operations of the dental clinic including staffing, timely and accurate documentation by providers and patient communication, following referral protocol, timely patient callbacks and appropriate OSHA requirements such as SDS forms, incident reports, among others. * Design, develop, and implement appropriate Dental Department policies, protocols and procedures which follow the most current accepted professional standards. * In collaboration with the CEO, develop and implement the dental scope of practice which best utilizes resources and serves all patients of the community. * Manage supply inventory and acquisition within budget limitations. * Review case management and assure appropriate referrals to outside clinics are completed timely. * Serve as an active member of the Board Quality and Performance Improvement Committee. * Develop, update, implement, and maintain the department Performance Improvement Plan. * Attend required meetings with management staff, administrative staff, and meetings as directed by the CEO. * Member of the Senior Leadership Team and attend weekly meetings. * Collaborate with appropriate staff for compliance management of processes and programs including OSHA, emergency preparedness, infection control, policy creation and enforcement and quality measures. * Provide consistent communication with the CEO, ensuring that information, reports, and materials are provided to clearly describe clinic activities and progress towards agreed upon objectives. * Develop and manage annual operating budget. * Lead, plan, coordinate, and ensure accreditations for approved postgraduate and undergraduate dental programs. * Recruits, reviews and interviews prospective candidates for AEGD program and as the AEGD Site Director, oversee all aspects of the program. * Hold and document departmental staff meetings at a minimum of monthly. * Act as point of contact for responding to complaints or concerns relating to the dental department. * Engage actively in training opportunities. * Direct involvement with identification of grant funding sources and procurement of funding to support activities in the dental clinic. * Seek out and direct efforts to expand dental services beyond what is currently offered. * Maintain a flexible approach to providing care to patients in a community health setting. * Work toward continuous quality improvement. * Supports adherence to and champions organizational compliance efforts throughout the clinic, but especially in the dental department. * Stay current with changing technology, including software and healthcare programs. * Uphold, support, and promote all company policies and procedures
