Work Shift Various (United States of America) Job SummaryWellstar Douglas in Douglasville, Georgia is seeking a PRN Registered CT Technologist. This position will work PRN - as needed hours. The Registered CT Technologist must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs. Must be dependable, accountable and cooperative. Assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams according to department procedures. Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in the use of equipment for diagnosis or treatment of diseases. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets up equipment to provide imaging service and positions patient for the procedure. Core Responsibilities and Essential FunctionsEquipmentDemonstrates the ability to adjust technique to ensure the patient receives the lowest possible radiation dose while maintaining image quality. Reports malfunctioning equipment to supervisor or service provider for timely correction. Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment according to infection control policy and department cleaning schedule. Patient CareVerifies proper clinician order for procedure. Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data and assesses for contraindicating conditions. Follows procedures for administering contrast medias safely. Ensures all studies have correct patient identification and right/left markers. Reviews CT/radiographic images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients. Responds to emergency situations and helps with restocking crash cart and maintaining life support equipment. Assists other technologists in all modalities when needed. Observes patient condition and evaluates situations requiring physician intervention. Verifies correct identity using two unique patient identifiers. Ensures patient privacy and comfort; maintains dignity throughout exam/procedure. Demonstrates competence in selecting and applying procedures, equipment, supplies and techniques based on patient age. Organizes schedule, time and priorities to accomplish required activities. Follows physician instructions when assisting with procedures. Demonstrates proficiency loading and operating power injection. Uses critical thinking skills. Dialogs with patient/family. Asks clarifying questions. Seeks clarification on ambiguous orders. Understands, demonstrates and documents preprocedural verification and Time Out when appropriate. Demonstrates and understands pre- and post-procedural care. Preps the patient for procedure. Demonstrates and understands sterile technique. Maintains competency with venipuncture. Education and CommunicationClearly explains the purpose and nature of exam to minimize patient anxiety using AIDET. Ensures patient questions, concerns or contraindications are addressed; notifies physician when unresolved. Participates in orientation and training of department employees. Provides preparatory instruction and explanation of procedures. Documentation is concise, legible and includes precise terminology. Reads email each scheduled workday and follows through with assignments. Completes mandatory departmental and hospital-wide education without prompting. Quality ControlConsistently produces acceptable images based on radiologist feedback and quality audits. Ensures equipment is fully operational prior to each use by checking calibration and operating deficiencies. Sends all studies to PACS immediately after completion; prints CDs as needed. Prints and scans teleradiography studies reported after hours when applicable. Completes all studies in RIS before completing in PACS. Prints completed teleradiography log sheet and submits to Radiologist when applicable. OperationsRestocks linens and supplies; maintains the department in clean and orderly condition. Transports and positions patients, assisting them on and off procedure table. Performs patient charging activities on the day service is rendered. Applies shielding, supportive and immobilization devices and equipment. Willingly lends knowledge and assistance to coworkers when requested or when time allows. Performs routine clerical and support duties to ensure continuity and quality of services. Keeps supervisor informed and provides prompt notification of issues or potential concerns. Maintains productivity rate equal to coworkers. Ability to operate all workstations associated with the CT department. Ability to push/retrieve images from the CT console to PACS. Maintains Joint Commission and other regulatory standards. Takes call when necessary. Any other duties as assigned. Required Minimum EducationGraduate of AMA-approved School of Radiology Technology - Required Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s) (All required upon hire unless otherwise stated) ARRT Radiography ARRT Computed Tomography Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association Required Minimum ExperienceMinimum 1 year experience in Radiology - Required Less than 1 year experience in CT - Preferred Required Minimum SkillsMust exhibit excellent communication skills due to frequent verbal and written communication with physicians, patients, visitors and staff. Routinely obtains, presents and discusses clinical information regarding job responsibilities. Must be able to explain or give directions to maintain goodwill and cooperation. Must function independently and under pressure while participating actively as a team member. Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills at all times. Must perform effectively in a stressful, fast-paced environment. Must be able to prioritize appropriately. Must be detail oriented and capable of multitasking throughout the shift. Must communicate professionally with patients, families, coworkers, volunteers and physicians. Must function independently yet productively as a cooperative team member. Must be compliant with all hospital policies, established practices, protocols and professional standards. Competent in all aspects of CT, patient positioning, exposure factors and radiation protection. Must understand anatomy and pathology and how they affect the quality of a procedure.
