Animal Control Warden/OfficerDepartment: Animal Control Reports To: Animal Control Administrator Employment Type: Full-time (37.5 hours/week) Salary: $15.00 - $16.00/hr Location: Lee County, Illinois Posting Date: February 24, 2026 Job Summary Lee County Animal Control is seeking a dedicated Animal Control Warden/Officer to enforce state and local animal control laws, investigate complaints, capture and care for animals, and provide exceptional public service. This role involves both fieldwork and shelter duties, ensuring the humane treatment of animals and the safety of the community. Key Responsibilities Investigate complaints regarding stray, dangerous, nuisance, or neglected animals. Capture, transport, and care for animals, including injured or deceased animals. Enforce animal control laws, issue citations, and maintain accurate records. Assist with shelter operations including feeding, cleaning, and adoption procedures. Educate the public on local laws and shelter policies. Track rabies vaccinations and registrations; microchip all animals released from the facility. . Collaborate with the State's Attorney on neglect or criminal cases and testify in court as needed. Maintain and stock Animal Control vehicles and equipment. Respond to phone and in-person inquiries at the Animal Control facility. QualificationsRequired: High School Diploma or equivalent Current and valid Driver's License Ability to handle animals humanely and safely Strong communication and organizational skills Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment Willingness to work varied hours including evenings, weekends, and occasional additional hours Preferred: 2+ years of experience in animal care and/or investigations Spanish language skills Physical Requirements & Work Environment Frequent exposure to animals, including potential bites or scratches Work in varying weather conditions and physically demanding situations Ability to lift up to 40 lbs, bend, kneel, and perform other physical tasks Exposure to animal noise, hair/dander, and cleaning chemicals Additional Information Background check required Must be able to travel independently within and outside Lee County Equal opportunity employer - all qualified candidates encouraged to apply How to Apply Submit your resume and cover letter to Human Resources at .
