Facility:Dayton Children's - Main CampusDepartment:Clinical PharmacySchedule:Full timeHours:40Job Details:The pharmacist oversees the daily operations within the department to ensure the safe and appropriate processing and delivery of medications to the patients. The pharmacist is responsible for reviewing and verifying medication orders and completing the final check for medication dispensing. The pharmacist monitors patient drug therapies, provides drug information, and promotes medication safety. The pharmacist supports and supervises the pharmacy technicians. In the absence of the pharmacy manager, the pharmacist may be required to assume the essential responsibilities and perform the duties of the pharmacy manager.This role complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy, the drug enforcement administration, and the food and drug administration, along with other regulatory agencies.***3rd shift position, working 10-hour shifts, 7 days on/7 days off.Department Specific Job Details:Medication Order ReviewAccurately reviews prescriptions and medication orders, checking medication for correct drug, route, dose, patient, and frequency.Calculates dosage based on mg/kg and verifies patient allergy information prior to dispensing medications.Intervenes with physicians when medication order is not appropriate for the patient. Documents intervention in computer system or on hardcopy of prescriptionDispenses medication safely and accurately for the patient. Appropriately labels all medications prior to dispensing.Clinical SkillsCollaborates with patient, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals.Attends educational programs and reads material relevant to pharmacy and health care to keep abreast of current information.Maintains continuing pharmaceutical education requirements as mandated by the State Board of Pharmacy and Joint CommissionServes as a resource for nurses and physicians with drug related questions, and actively seeks to provide the most up-to-date drug information to their customers by utilizing drug references appropriate to age.Provides pharmacological information by answering questions and requests of health care professionals and counseling patients on drug therapies.Drug InformationKnowledgeable of the drug information resources available, including LexiComp and Micromedex.Provides accurate drug information to health care providers when called upon.Makes clinical decisions based on drug information provided.Knowledgeable in pediatric specific dosing and works to ensure that medications are dispensed accurately and efficiently.Pharmacy FunctionsResponsible for preparing and compounding medications, checking doses, giving pharmacological information to multidisciplinary health care team, and monitoring patient drug therapies.Prepares medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders and detecting therapeutic incompatibilities.Ensures that prescriptions are filled accurately and in a timely manner with respect to workflow.Completes pharmacy operational requirements by organizing and directing technicians' workflow, verifying their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals, and verifying order entries, charges, and inspections.
