Summary The RespiratoryTherapist administers, evaluates and monitors all aspects of adult andpediatric respiratory care; and responsible for consistently high-qualitypatient care. Under the supervision ofthe Respiratory Manager and C.O.O. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPerforms and administers respiratory therapytreatments according to physician orders. Administers hyper- inflation therapy (incentivespirometry) in a safe, effective manner, and in accordance with guidelines.Set up and administer Aerosol humidity therapy. Administers, evaluates, and monitors medical gastherapy. Administers, safe effective airway. Set and monitor mechanical ventilators. Administers percussion and postural drainage. Able to lift and position patients intoappropriate positions. Responds to all emergency situations. Performs arterial punctures in a safe manor. Accurately assesses patient's pulmonary status. Responsible for accurate charting. Maintain and trouble shoot respiratory therapyequipment. Disassemble and clean (disinfects) respiratoryequipment. Responsible for documentation of therapytreatments in daily/monthly progress notes using electronic charting. Performs other duties as assigned.Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team tomanage patient care. Utilizes journals, books, etc. to learn and/or improve newtechniques and equipment.Assists other staff members in performing anyduty that enhances the delivery of patient care.Provides lab support and is proficient inI-stat functions.Advanced Orthopedic and SpineCertification Requirements(CR.1c) As partof the Advanced Orthopedic and Spine Certification, at a minimum, the Programdirect-care staff, must have eight (4) hours of education specific to theProgram scope, initially, and at least annually thereafter.(CR.1e) As partof the Advanced Orthopedic and Spine Certification, staff possess adaptabilityto processes as related to up-to-date best practices, collaboration betweendepartments, compliance with protocols/processes, communication, cooperationand exceptional customer service. Within 90 daysof hire or, if currently employed, within 90 days of signing the jobdescription, must adhere to:Orientation of Advanced Orthopedic and SpineCertification.In compliance with the Program educationrequirements.Completed department specific competencies.Regulatory RequirementsMust have current Respiratory Therapist licensefor the state of LouisianaMust have CRT (Certified Respiratory Therapist)licensureMay have RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist)licensureOne year of clinical experience within the lastyearMust have current BLS (CPR) card and ACLScertificationsPALS certified preferredSkillsAbility to communicate effectively in English,both verbally and in writing.Basic computer knowledge.Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representativeof those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essentialfunctions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee isregularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requiresrepetitive motions, standing, walking, bending, kneeling and stooping all day.The employee must frequently lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
