JOB SUMMARYThe HSE Specialist supports the HSE departmental goals, HSE personnel, and the company's management teams. The position is responsible for upholding best practices in safety and the environment and developing program plans to support overall G&H HSE goals, mission, and vision.KEY INTERACTIONSProject leadership, G&H executive leadership and management teams, HSE staff, G&H personnel,vendors, and industry associates.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Conducts HSE inspections of all vessels, and facilities generate inspection reports, and works interdepartmentally to achieve corrective actionConducts incident investigations as assignedDeliver HSE-related trainingManage Safety Management System databasesManaging safety data sheet online databaseProgram coordinator for the following: Hearing protection program Respiratory protection program Bloodborne pathogen program Crane, Forklift, Vehicle inspection program Serves as safety point-of-contact (POC) as required Upholds and enforces all aspects of the Towing Safety Management System.EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree Working knowledge of 46 CFR Subchapter M and 29 CFR 1910Familiarity with the Clean Water Act, vessel general permits, and stormwater pollution prevention plansAttention to detail and problem-solving skillsExcellent interpersonal skillsRequires proficiency with computer hardware and software to include Microsoft Office applications, using a computer with a keyboard and mouse, navigation with a web browser, checking and sending email, and use of internet search enginesMinimum of 3-5 years of experience in the maritime industry REQUIRED LICENSURE & CERTIFICATIONS Active and valid Texas driver's licenseActive and valid Transportation Identification Workers Credential (TWIC)Active and valid Merchant Mariner credential is preferred REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES Experience implementing HSE standardsAble to work independently as a self-starter to further the HSE's departmental goalsProblem-solver who can collaborate with the HSE team to reach departmental goalsAbility to establish and maintain effective relationships with personnel and stakeholders Trained in incident investigations, or able to obtain training within 6 months of hireAbility to always communicate effectively and professionally Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters and areas of the organizationAbility to manage multiple demands simultaneously while maintaining service standardsAbility to understand and execute complex oral and written instructionsAbility to work independently with minimal or no guidance Excellent written and verbal communication skills Interpersonal skills to include self-awareness and the ability to deal professionally with others and always make professional judgmentsMust be service-oriented and customer-centric to all internal and external customers Must be a team player and support the mission, vision, and goals of G&H Towing and the departmentProven ability to troubleshoot, test resolutions, and escalate common issuesProven analytical and problem-solving skillsStrong communication, organizational, analytical, time management, problem-solving, and planning skillsWORKING CONDITIONS Work hours will be assigned based on business needs.
