This role focuses on psychiatric evaluations, assessments, and medication management for a correctional population with varied mental-health needs.The PMHNP will function as an independent provider within scope of practice while collaborating with an interdisciplinary behavioral-health team that includes psychologists and licensed therapists. This position is ideal for clinicians who are confident, adaptable, and comfortable working in a structured correctional healthcare environment.Clinical Environment Correctional behavioral-health setting Patient volume averages ~10 patients per day (may vary) Multidisciplinary support includes staff psychologists and LCSW/LPCs Key Responsibilities Conduct psychiatric evaluations and mental-health assessments Diagnose psychiatric conditions and develop treatment plans Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications Educate patients on diagnoses, medications, and treatment options Collaborate with psychiatric team leadership and behavioral-health staff Maintain compliance with all state, federal, and facility regulations Provide high-quality, ethical psychiatric care within scope of license Required Qualifications Licensed Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) in Iowa National NP certification (AANP or ANCC preferred) Active DEA BLS certification Minimum 1 year PMHNP experience preferred Minimum 3 years mental-health experience preferred Ability to meet Iowa DOC background clearance requirements CPR, TB screening, and health clearance per regulations Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements Why This Opportunity?This long-term locum assignment offers PMHNPs a rare blend of schedule stability, competitive compensation, and meaningful clinical impact within a structured correctional mental-health system.
