The Fleet Operations Manager ensures that Maximus Building Supply's transport operations are efficient and profitable. Their duties include purchasing or leasing the appropriate vehicles, scheduling regular vehicle maintenance, and making recommendations to management regarding more effective processes. Utilize fleet management tools (e.g., MaintainX) to track assets, service needs, usage hours, mileage, and repair historyManage vendor relationships with repair shops, part suppliers, and fuel providers, ensuring quality and cost-effective serviceMonitor fleet performance, downtime, and overall asset condition; optimize lifecycle planning and recommend replacements when assets reach end-of-lifemanage inventory of fleet parts, tools, and service suppliesOperations & LogisticsEnsure all vehicles are road-ready, compliant, and properly equipped to support delivery operationsPartner with dispatch, yard managers, and leadership across multiple locations to prioritize fleet availability and schedulingsupport long-term fleet planning, budget development, and equipment purchasingTrack capital expenditures for fleet and equipment needsSafety Training & ComplianceLead forklift operator training and certification across all locations; maintain current records and coordinate recertificationsconduct safety checks, daily inspection audits, and toolbox talks to reinforce proper equipment operation and reduce accidentsEnsure compliance with DOT, OSHA (including OSHA 1910.178), and company standardsParticipate in incident investigations and implement corrective actionsMaintain accurate documentation for licensing, inspections, compliance reports, and fuel/tax records (including IFTA-related data).Facility Responsibilities:Perform monthly facility inspections across all sites, identifying operational safety issues and coordinating repairsManage facility-related vendors to ensure timely service and issue resolutionData, Reporting & Financial ManagementTrack driver performance, fuel usage, route efficiency, and telematics data for continuous improvementMaintain precise fuel mileage logs and prepare data for tax or audit requirementsMonitor monthly repair costs versus budget; identify trends to reduce total cost of ownershipDevelop annual capital expenditure plans for fleet expansion or replacementRequired Skills & Qualifications2+ years in fleet management, logistics, heavy equipment maintenance, or a similar fieldExperience managing mixed fleets in lumber, construction, logistics, or industrial operationsStrong technical knowledge of forklifts, piggyback lifts, diesel engines, and commercial vehiclesKnowledge of DOT and OSHA requirements, particularly related to material-handling equipmentCertified Forklift Trainer or ability to obtain certificationStrong organizational, documentation, and budgeting skillsProficiency in Excel and/or Fleet Management Software for data-driven decision-makingAbility to travel regularly between locationsPreferred TraitsProactive problem solver with a strong safety-first mindsetAble to balance hands-on technical work with administrative and strategic planningStrong communication, vendor management, and cross-team coordination abilitiesSuccess MetricsHigh equipment uptime and reduced "Out of Service" time100% Compliance for operator certifications and safety programsImproved cost-per-mile/hour through preventative maintenance and fuel managementReliable equipment availability supporting on-time deliveries across all locations
