Position Summary:The Computer Operator I is an entry-level role responsible for supporting day-to-day computer and data center operations. This position performs routine tasks such as monitoring systems, responding to alerts, and following documented procedures to ensure the availability, reliability, and security of the computing environment. Working under close supervision, the Computer Operator I escalates issues per established protocols while building experience with enterprise systems and operational best practices. This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to follow instructions, and flexibility to work rotating shifts in a 24í—7 environment. The position plays a key role in maintaining stable operations and supporting senior technical staff.Data Center Operations:Follow data center security protocols, ensuring all personnel comply with access and audit requirementsMaintain system uptime, data integrity, and overall facility reliabilityPerform hardware installations and de-installations in accordance with operational and change management standardsMonitor environmental infrastructure (power, cooling, physical conditions) and coordinate with Plant Engineering to resolve issuesCustomer Service:Monitor and support Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for incident managementPartner with cross-functional teams to restore services and resolve incidents efficientlyFollow and support established change management processesCollaboration:Work effectively with team members and cross-functional partnersContribute to a professional, respectful, and team-oriented environmentEducation & Certifications:High school diploma or GED requiredAssociate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field preferredRelevant certifications are a plus (e.g., CompTIA ITF+ or A+, Microsoft or Linux fundamentals, data center certifications)Operational & Work Skills:Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)Strong attention to detail and accuracyAbility to monitor multiple systems simultaneouslyAbility to identify issues and escalate appropriatelyExperience documenting system activity and incidentsWillingness to work shifts, weekends, and overnight schedulesSoft Skills:Strong organizational and time-management skillsClear written and verbal communicationDependable with a strong sense of responsibilityAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionTeam-oriented and professional demeanorTechnical Skills:Basic proficiency with computer systems and peripheralsFamiliarity with Windows, Linux, or UNIX operating systemsAbility to monitor system processes and manage scheduled tasksBasic knowledge of file management, backups, and system monitoring tools/logsExperience with data entry and accuracy validationBasic troubleshooting of hardware and software issuesPhysical & Environmental Requirements:Ability to sit for extended periods while monitoring systemsAbility to lift up to 25 lbsComfortable working in a data center or operations environment
